Delicious spinach momos - Edit
We’ve come here a few times for take out and finally got to try dining in. The spinach momos are some of the best dumplings we’ve had in Seattle. The samosas here are also pretty good. We’ve tried the Annapurna curry and Monk stir-fry dishes, and they weren’t bad, but their tofu isn’t that flavorful. I preferred their Chana saag. We’ll try more of the lentil and chana and soups in the future to see what else is good here.

Bland Experience - Edit
I wanted to love Annapurna Cafe after a mishap nearby with a restaurant not being open, but sadly it was just an okay experience food-wise.
Read moreThe restaurant specializes in Indian, Nepalese, and Tibetan cuisine from the mountainous regions. While I usually go some apps and a curry, the selection of Tibetan dishes definitely intrigued me so I differed from my usual orders... and that was probably a slight mistake on my end.
We tried their Annapurna Curry with Tofu, the Tibetan Vegetable Thukpa soup, and a Stuffed Paratha. The curry felt very watery and unflavored to the point of it being almost too bland. Paratha was flaky but also bland to us. The thukpa was probably the biggest disappointment. It tasted like a bland vegetable soup that you could throw together at home so I regretted not going for another type of daal or curry.
I also noticed their menu was confusing when it came to labeling what was vegetarian or vegan. They'd go back and forth either listing an item as 'vegan' or using a symbol, or not at all on items I was confident would be vegan friendly.
While the food was bland, I did find the ambiance quite nice with the restaurant being on a lower level and the staff creating quite the mood lighting for us.
Perhaps these dishes were just misses on our end and they have other great items to try. Hopefully if you come, you'll have a better food experience than we did.

I agree, some of the dishes here are pretty bland, especially the ones with tofu. I usually recommend trying the spinach momos here, since they seem to be the only thing that is consistently good.

A change of pace! - Edit
We went here expecting something closer to Northern Indian (which is the norm in the US) and actually pleasantly surprised in how different it was. There is strong Himalayan / Nepalese influence in the style and taste.
Read moreWe got the samosas, Palak Tofu (like a a saag paneer, but tofu 💚), and the Chana Masala (my favorite dish). As I consider myself a Chana Masala enthusiast, I will say this spice, and sauce is different than the typical Northern Indian. They call it a chat-pata sauce. Try it!!
Everything that is vegan is clearly labeled as vegan. Which is over half the vegetarian menu. What a beautiful world we live in 💚🌱🌎

They took a step backwards - Edit
Annapurna is a gem of Capitol Hill, but they revamped the menu and the formerly comprehensive labeling is now all over the place. Many items which used to be labeled vegan no longer are—but some still have the little v! The server cheerfully told us that they’d removed the label in many places because they thought it hurt sales…but it’s still there in some places, so you have to be in the know to order those things. So frustrating that you would have to ask one by one to know what’s edible now! Not to mention an entire appetizer came totally inedible…(pumpkin pakoras using underripe/undercooked veg). Why is Seattle going backwards on vegan stuff?

Runny curry - Edit
Decided on Indian food for dinner and I ordered some samosas, the Annapurna curry with rice and a piece of roti. The samosas were fantastic as they always are. For the curry, I thought that the consistency of it wasn’t thick enough. It was very runny. Not sure if this is normal for Nepalese style curry or not. I would eat here again to try other things but would pass on the Annapurna curry.

Delicious food! - Edit
Found this place while walking around Capital Hill. Saw the menu has labeled vegan options. Waited for a seat for a while during dinner time, but it was well worth the wait! Delicious curries, and tofu dishes. They have a type of bread that is like a big bubble, and you pop it and it’s sort of like an elephant ear (fair food). I don’t remember what it’s called, but the waiter assured it was vegan. It comes with a chutney and it’s delicious!

Excellent vegan Tibetan & Indian standby - Edit
I live pretty close by, so I’ve been dining here as well as getting takeout for a few years now. I usually get the Chana Masala or Annapurna Curry. One of the better Indian/Tibetan restaurants in Seattle.

Nepali!! Tibetan! Eat here! - Edit
Had a mouth watering meal in this restaurant. Staff is attentive and efficient. We let our waiter know that we were vegan and wanted to sample Nepali and Tibetan cuisine as we had not tried it before. We had the vegan spinach mo-mos; the Tibetan chow-chow noodles; and a deep fried eggplant dish with a coconut curry sauce (Goa curry?). All were excellent. Lively atmosphere in a colourfully decorated dining room. Great for a get together with friends or an intimate one on one.
