Amazing food! - Edit
We had the best experience at the lunch buffet. Such a huge selection and everything was so tasty. The volunteers here are very friendly and can help answer any questions about the dishes. The organization is a nonprofit and all proceeds go to the charity. Must-visit in Penang!

Delicious all you can eat buffet - Edit
The place has switched over to a flat rate fee for a long time now. It’s 12 RM for all-you-can-eat lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 15 RM for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They have several rice options, dal, curry, subzi, chapati, rasam, tamarind juice, poriyal, etc. Watch out for curd and cream in certain dishes - they are not labelled but clearly include dairy. They have a special evening buffet on the last Saturday of every month for 25 RM featuring live cooking too. High quality food in a lovely setting at a reasonable price.

Incredibly good value! - Edit
Here you get a home-cooked Indian buffet with many vegan options. Set within a quiet small temple, this place offers a daily changing buffet spread. The dishes are delicious and you can eat until you’re full. RM15 (~3€) per person as of November 2023. Ask what’s vegan, since some dishes might contain ghee or paneer!

Exceptional food! - Edit
The food here is absolutely delicious. We went two days in a row for the lunch buffet (different food both days). It’s now a fixed price - excellent value. We could not have been made to feel more welcome and would highly recommend anyone to visit.

Pleasant and peaceful dining experience - Edit
Very much a project fuelled by love and compassion. Similar to other volunteer based restaurants, this is all about giving more than just receiving.
Read moreCurrently there are two separate dining options at lunchtime;
· Buffet - pay as one sees fit
· Set lunch - RM9 per person, it's practically a Thali with drinks and dessert included.
The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. The dining area is spacious and airy, well covered from the midday sun. There's a shoes off policy as you enter.
Once you arrive at the main gate / entrance you need to walk a bit further in, away from the street and walk directly to the back of the main building, to the right-hand side of the stage performance area.

Eat and Pay What you Want. Nothing Fancy, good Home cooked Indian Food - Edit
Visit on 22 July 2017:
Read moreWent there for the daily "Pay What You Want" lunch buffet. According to my mum, the spread is less and not as good as it used to be. Still, food is fresh, well seasoned and balanced. A nice peaceful Al fresco dining area by the garden, nice and compassionate vibe in a residential area. Nothing fancy, not a huge selection of food, just home cooked style Indian vegetarian food. Helpers here are all volunteers too, and they are friendly and hospitable toward everyone. Parking usually isn't a problem. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

All-you-can-eat Indian food + Pay as you wish - Edit
This is simply the best Indian and vegetarian restaurant in Penang! Everything there is perfect from the food to the setting (in a garden) to the price (pay as you wish). You can eat as you want for a cheap price. The chapati are delicious! A lot of locals eat there. Annalakshmi is the Hindu goddess of abundance (and food at the same time). You will find a statue of her in the restaurant. This place is peaceful because situated in a quiet neighborhood. You can enjoy you delicious food with the sound of good Indian music. Included with the food you will find coffee, tea and water! You HAVE to give it a try!

Best indian in Penang - Edit
We 'discovered' this place on our last day in Penang and are kicking ourselves that we didn't find it earlier! From the HC description (which I will edit now) it sounded as though food was only available on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but it seems they are open every day except Mondays, for all three meals.
Read moreWe attended the Saturday lunch buffet, which is situated in a lovely garden environment. The vibe is peaceful and compassionate. The selection of food is not huge but plenty enough to keep you interested. The chana masala in particular was the best we've tasted in ages, but everything was nice. Since it is vegetarian festival time there were more Chinese there than usual and to make the food suitable for them apparently they are cooking without garlic and onion for the next 9 days.
From the reaction we got when we paid for our food I got the impression we paid more than most, but it was still worth every ringitt. The service here was also friendly - they called us a taxi and chatted to us as we waited for it. Which reminds me - it is in a quiet residential area, so best to ask them to call a taxi for you when you're done (unless you have your own means of transport).
Looking forward to visiting the one in KL too.
Pros: al fresco dining, fresh and well spiced, great food and friendly service
Cons: residential area

Its great - just try it! - Edit
Amazing place with the great Indian / Malaysia vegetarian food. Run mainly by volunteers and & aims to provide quality food which is accessible to all; hence the 'eat as you like, pay as you want' concept which is remarkable for the ambiance and size of the place. Recently expanded with much more seating so you don't have to wait for a table anymore.
Read moreDefinitely worth going out of the way to try this place - the menu changes daily with a very wide variety so you can go everyday of the week to look forward to something new. Highly recommended.
