So many flavors

I loved this restaurant. Everything about it. First of all, the food was really really good! They make a vegan lassi drink and have vegan yohurt and porridge, many vegan options. I had a curry, was rich of flavors, the hostess/owner is very open and definately makes you want to come back.

Pros: vegan dairy replacements

Cons: none

We ventured out for our first meal shortly after arriving and decided to give Aniyor a go seeing as it was close. It was FANTASTIC. Lots of vegan options clearly marked, wonderful staff and well priced. Would absolutely visit again, everything was delicious.

WOW best Indian food and beautiful staff

This restaurant is truly divine. Came here and so many vegans and friendly veges. The staff are beautiful and accommodating and make everything fresh. The food was out of this world good. The Rajmah Masala was the best thing I have had in all of Nepal. It was also so easy to gluten free options for bread.

P.s. don't try and find on google maps you will get lost use the happy cow pin

simply uniqe

when we entered the place (located 2nd floor) a pleasant smile with warm eyes welcomed
sat on the window table with view on Thamel, the atmosphere is cosy & comfortable.
the menu offers a rich variety of indian food  and some nepali dishes. we found the masala mixture (blend spices sauce) rich in flavour and freashly made -delicious!
vegan options are planty, from naan to chai
plus requests are taken under consideration

Vegan vegetarian great restaurant

This restaurant offers a great variety of vegan and vegetarian options. The dishes are delicious and the place is very clean. I am vegan, I don't eat garlic and onion and I was able to find many tasty options for breakfast lunch and dinner. The owner of the restaurant is a charming lady and we had many great conversations as well! This is the best vegetarian restaurant I found in Thamel.

Pros: Clean, Central, Healthy food and drinks

Closed?

On May 26, 2018 I went to the location where Aniyor is supposed to be and was told it's permanently closed.

Really like this place

I often stay in the guesthouse the restaurant is attached to, so I eat here often. Lovely people, lovely food. They're dedicated to getting your vegan needs met right - they even do vegan fruit lassis! Only issue is most of the seating is outdoors, which is too cold in winter. But numerous tables indoors too. Give it a try!

Small, enjoyable veg restaurant in Thamel

Went to this restaurant on a Thursday evening. The place was completely empty, which was a shame. The food was good. The staff was friendly. I saw one review talk about the small portions but I didn’t experience that at all. I was stuffed when I left. Unfortunately they didn’t have two of the menu items I requested so I had to settle for alternatives. Still very delicious, but not my first choice. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend trying it out if you have a few days in Kathmandu.

good veg Indian restaurant

Nice and clean (not street) Indian restaurant.
Can make vegan lassi (coconut based), but other then that vegan options are the usual Indian vegan dishes. Food is tasty but expensive.

Pros: veg restaurant, vegan fruit shakes and lassi

Cons: pricey, confusing menu

Great vegan indian food

Indian vegetarian restaurant with great vegan options. Visited twice during short stay in Kathamndu. Traditional paneer dishes 'translated' to vegan using tofu (tofu masala, palak tofu...). Vegan lassi available. Lots of vegan breads. Staff very knowledgeable about vegan food. Cozy outdoor seating in heart of Thamel.
Location changed from the old address on Google Maps. Address here on Gappy Cow is correct. Current (Sep 2017) location above Tara Om Guesthouse in Thamel. Does not serve beer.

Pros: Many vegan options, Cozy outdoor seating, Centre of Thamel

Cons: no alcohol

excellent Indian + Nepali vegan + vegetarian food

The owner, Gauri, and her kitchen and wait staff understand well what vegan means, so if you ask for vegan food, you can be confident you'll get it. Gauri's English is great, and she can tell you what ingredients are in each dish to reassure you that, for example, a creamy sauce in your meal is made with nuts and not dairy cream.

The waiter took the time to check with the kitchen staff to see if they knew how to make dishes we were interested in vegan, and recommended alternative dishes for those they didn't. Gauri says she's having a new menu printed that indicates which dishes are vegan. This level of vegan-aware and vegan-friendly treatment is a very different experience than what's to be expected at most other places in Kathmandu.

The food was really delicious in both my visits. In my first visit I tried Kashmiri aloo dum and a dhal. Both were among the best Indian dishes I've had. In my second visit I tried the Nepali set meal. It was also fantastic. I could eat at Aniyor every night.

The restaurant is quiet, relaxing and calm, and even a bit romantic, especially compared with the establishments overrun by tourists in the nearby Thamel neighborhood, and especially on an evening when the city's power is out, as it often is, and you're offered your meal at Aniyor by candlelight. And yet Aniyor is less than a five minute walk from Thamel.

This restaurant is best enjoyed if you want to have a drink and chat or do a little reading before your food arrives, because the food is prepared fresh to order with real care and so isn't likely to be served fast. It'd be wise to go when you have at least an hour free, and preferably 75 to 90 minutes. You might wait 45 minutes or more for food to arrive after you order. The wait is definitely worth it.

Update on Apr. 1, 2017: Returned a year after writing the above review to Aniyor's new, more-convenient location in the heart of the Thamel neighborhood in Om Tara Guest House and placed a large order for take-away. The order was prepared correctly within an hour, as promised, and tasted great. The wait staff understood both the English language and what "vegan" means much better than last year. The wait for food to be prepared was still longer than in most restaurants, but was significantly shorter than last year.

Best Indian Food Ever!

This lovely little unassuming restaurant is home to the best Indian food I've had in my life, let alone the best vegan Indian food! The menu is clearly marked with vegan items and the options are abundant. Food is made fresh to order from scratch so took a while but was beautiful.

Pros: beautiful fresh and tasty food , the garlic naan

Cons: While cheap, serving sizes are on the small side

Great, tasty vegan options!

The lady who owns this place is so knowledgeable about the food here and always on hand to assist with anything you might need, such a beautiful person with a gorgeous energy. The food is great, there are heaps of vegan options and the portions are big and made fresh. Recommend the pagodas! Nice service, calm vibes and tasty, rich food.

Good choices of dishes

I just read the preview review after eating at Aniyor vegetarian restaurant.
Yes a new menu have been printed out cause all vegan dishes are now marked with a green heart.
It took long before getting served but we had time, so it wasn't a problem.
Food is good and tasty.
Staff speak English and happy to help if needed.
