Vegan Ecuadorean food - Edit
It was nice to try some tradicional Ecuadorean food with a vegan twist! It wasn’t the most flavourful food and wasn’t super warm but it was yummy enough and the lady who runs it is very sweet. You get a 2 course meal for super cheap! Soup to start with and then a rice dish with soya protein and veg. I also had a yummy warm vegan pastry that was filled with fig! It was absolutely delicious! As was the green juice!

Tastless but cheap - Edit
We had the almuerzos for $3.50USD. The owner knew the difference between vegeterian/vegan so was able to supplement the non-vegan elements of the dishes. There was weird moment when we were paying, where she was telling us 1 dime doesn't equal 10 cents and is only 1 cent, so that left a bad taste in our mouth.

Read moreSo I recently ate at Ananda Vegetarian Restaurant twice and can say that it was one of the most pleasant experiences of any restaurant I've been to in Cuenca. I did go to the Nuevo Paraíso at two of its locations and was honestly unsure of what ingredients were being used in all the dishes and soups. I sometimes felt a bit unwell but am not sure if that's totally related. Anyways the food at Ananda was fresh and unique, not just a copy paste salad or veggie mix but a thoughtfully crafted plate that included a vegan soup both times. I'm not a big fan of fake meat so the tamale wasn't my favorite, however the owner is open to suggestions of new dishes or types of foods to prepare! I liked that I could be confident and sure that what I was getting was high quality and without eggs or dairy or any crazy additives like MSG. The owner is a conscious lady who cares about what she serves her customers. Also her Ají was fresh and added a lot of flavor to the dish. Perhaps bring an avocado to round out your vegan plate if you'd like. She serves vegetarian specials 1-2 times a week so if you're not a fan of cheese or dairy just ask and she'll let you know what's in it. The rest of the time the food is mostly vegan friendly. And really good quality and fresh. I recommend supporting this local restaurant if you're in Cuenca and get the chance.

Delicious and affordable set lunch - Edit
The vegan meal of the day is really tasty and Ananda is only place I've found vegan tamales in Cuenca (filled with soy mince and vegetables). They also sell vegetarian sweets to go but on the day we went, also had vegan chocolate truffles available. These were excellent!
