Simple, tasty traditional Romanian food

I had to look around a bit to find Ana's Bistro (somehow even the neighbor did not seem to know the place!), but once I found it I was warmly welcomed in a combination of Romanian and English. The lady behind the counter told me what the daily menu was and proudly answered me that yes, everything is vegan (or 'măncâre de post': Orthodox Christian fasting food). There were two options to chose from for both the starter and main meal. For the starter, I picked the borsch soup: a traditional Eastern Europe beetroot soup. The soup was served with two slices of delicious homemade sourdough bread, which made a wonderful combination. I chose the sarmale (cabbage rolls) with mămăligă (polenta) as the main meal. After the main meal, I was surprised to also get a desert - which I did not know it was included - of chocolate cake. The whole menu was only 30 lei. The ladies also gave me an extra desert, cashew ice-cream, to take home. Admittedly, I did compliment them on their food, but I did not have any cheeky intentions when I did so! ;)

All in all, a great place to visit during your stay in Constanța to taste traditional Romanian food, prepared by friendly, warm people. Do not expect haute cuisine plant-based preparations, but simply a satisfying, hearty meal.

Pros: Traditional Romanian food, Fair price, Friendly staff

Cons: Focus on take-away, indoor seating is a bit simple

A hidden gem

Tried two different soups that were both excellent, a pasta main and several desserts. Everything was great! The location is a bit hidden and it seems to be mainly intended for take away as there are few places to sit down.

If you want the genuine Romanian taste, this is a place I recommend!

Pros: Very friendly owners, Very inexpensive
