Bed and breakfast located at a stone's throw away from the Katy Trail. Serves meat, but the innkeepers will arrange for vegan meals when you notify in advance. Example of food may be just egg scramble with side of vegetables, bourbon-soaked peach topped with non-dairy ice cream, or salad with candied walnut.

A Study in Onyx - Edit
Pros: The Amber House leaves nothing to be desired in terms of Amenities, Lodging, the location and the hospitality. In a genius move they have bike storage and spare bikes. This is handy because the B&B is a stone's throw away from the Katy Trail. When you're done on the trail, you can make use of the jetted tub if you happen to snag the Onyx or Topaz room. Dawson and Sherri are super accommodating, maybe too much so with wine if you're a lightweight like me.
Read moreCon: Nitpick incoming. The food. Was it good? Yes. Was it vegan? Yes. Was it good vegan food? Ehh, that's the most subjective part. I scored that part 4 out 5 if you look at the graph. As a vegan foodie for the past decade you can tell when someone who normally doesn't cook vegan food, cooks it. Obviously it's not fair compare the food to a place that specializes in Vegan food. Dawson actually obliged our request for vegan food while plenty of other B&B's told us to [censored] off when we were planning the trip. That alone is a 5 for food. As far as vegan food is concerned I'd personally rate it a 3.5. Awesome presentation and wicked salad game aside. The curry looked lonely without some more vegetables AND spice. I'm married and deathly afraid of vampires so give me all the onions and garlic you have. I worry that you heard was give me a lot of onions and garlic. What I said was, "give me all the onions and garlic you have." Also, carbs would have been welcome with the just scramble. Toast or potatoes would have rounded off the breakfast nicely. As I said. This is merely a nitpick, look at the food pics and decide for yourself.
Disclaimer: I think most people will love the food. I've been eating out too much and for too long and I can throw down in the kitchen if need be because businesses weren't always willing to try. Plus I've been social distancing before it was recommended. Sherri and Dawson provided vegan cheeses, Just Egg and hummus. That effort alone is worth five star rating cause that's not something they'd regularly keep in stock. In addition to that you get a nice modern home with awesome decor influenced by Dawson and Sherri's world travels in a quaint town that you drive to Columbia just as easily as bike there. My personal rating is 5 stars but per Happy Cow's policy it gets a 4. Which i understand, but I like to think that more people asking for vegan food at non-vegan places will help normalize the movement more.
