Authentic tea house - Edit
The mochi and green tea were very yummy. Not too sweet. The old building is very charming. Lots of tourists come here, so you might have to wait bit till get seated.

So wonderful, must-visit - Edit
This is one of the most beautiful places I've seen and I recommend visiting so much! The old Tea House has such a beautiful atmosphere with its old and traditional looks and I really so recommend visiting it. They sell a range of tea drinks and mochi. The mochi were the best I ever had, soooo good. There is a bus from Lake ashi that directly makes a Stop in Front of the tea house.

A historic place! - Edit
I felt so lucky to get to enjoy amasake and other traditional foods here! What an amazing history. My partner and I each had amasake and shared a mochi plate and miso oden. Do beware that the miso-oden is definitely an acquired taste! If you’ve never had konjac before it would be very “challenging” as they say on the menu 😆 I wouldn’t order it again just because it’s not to my liking, but very cool to get to try vegan food that people have been eating for centuries.

Best amazake, relaxing atmosphere - Edit
This stunning 800 years old amazake house is a Japanese heritage. You can get here by bus from Yumoto station or lake ashino. It’s atmosphere is magical and the amazake is the most delicious I’ve had so far. They also have a couple of vegan snacks such as konnyaku and mochi.

A magical tea house - Edit
I hiked along the Old Tokaido highway to get to this amazing tea house that has been run by the same family for 13 generations. I showed the man working there (who I believe is the owner) my card which details my dietary restrictions in Japanese. He helped me identify a sweet off the menu that was vegan. I ordered the amazake, their namesake drink of fermented rice, and the black sesame chikara-mochi. Both were mind-blowing. This tea house is a whole vibe, but it’s probably best to sit outside if you’re sensitive to smoky incense, as it was stinging my eyes a bit.
