As I have recently finished another trip to the Caribbean I noticed I forgot to review Amaluna Restaurant & Lab after my trip to the DR a few years ago. I popped by this restaurant during my trip since it was really close to the resort I was staying at. I really enjoyed this place and had a pasta (will post photo if I find it on my old computer later). The staff were really nice and it was definitely refreshing to dine here instead of eating at the all-inclusive resort I was staying at. Definitely deserving of a 5-star rating. Highly recommended!

It says it's closed on Wednesday, but it was open when I went there, albeit they had only one item on the menu. It was a salad bowl with pasta and veggie sausage, a type of veggie potato salad (at least that's what it tasted like anyway), eggplant, and a veggie cheese/tomato skewer with sesame seeds. It was tasty, large, and only $10, plus it came with juice and cucumber water (stay HYDRATED in the Dominican Republic!). There were a couple of nice kitties roaming around too! The garden setting is very shaded and beautiful!

Fabulous - Best Vegan food in town - Edit
I stayed in Punta Cana for a week and went here several times. It's tough to find decent vegan food in the city so this place was like heaven. The owner is a really sweet woman who went above and beyond. She gave so much great advice about the city too! The food was quality with solid ingredients and really tasty! I was here August 2019 - it's low season so they were only open 11-2 which is a shame because I would have loved to eat there for dinner too. My only complaint is that there wasn't any coffee😄

Best vegan restaurant I have visited in Latin America - Edit
The food was super delicious. You get there stuff you haven't had before and which you can't just buy. They have an own small laboratory where they develop and create their own products which taste amazingly good. I can highly recommend this place!

We have visited Amaluna for two years now. They have wonderful food in relaxing environment. The staff speaks Spanish and English. You start with a welcome course of light chips with the yummiest mayo ever. They have burgers, bowls and boards.

Como vegana, planee y esperé mucho para venir a este restaurante en mi viaje a Punta Cana y cuando llegamos, hasta la entrada era hermosa. Muchas plantas y flores y personas muy amables. Las comidas fueron realmente espectaculares. Las pruebas y mezclas de sabores marcados e intensos se sintieron de forma maravillosa y realmente es una de las mejores comidas que he probado en un restaurante vegan. I was having a bad day and recently made the switch to Vegan so I needed a fix and a pick me up. This is the only vegan venue in PuntaCana and had to give it a shot. The restaurant decor is absolutely beautiful, natural and just my style. Wooded areas, dreamcatchers, windchimes, log seating and lots of plants. There are lots of friendly animals scurrying about which I loved. I was feeding a little puppy fries LOL! The food is delicious and they even give you a complimentary welcome nacho tray which was really appreciated and yummy. I had the Fresh Fresh juice which was crisp and cold, I could feel it cleansing my insides😍 And the Insane Burger😍 Really delicious patty with a yummy vegan mayo👌🏼 The owner Magdalena was kind and open, engaging in conversation with me about veganism & Punta Cana culture. Also gave me a lot of life advice which is always appreciated by me. Truly an experience. 10/10 would recommend.

Buddah bowl był ok, ale bez szału - ratowały go bardzo dobre i ciekawe kulki z wegańską mozzarellą.
Za to koktajle owocowe pyszka! Warto odwiedzić Amerykę Środkową dla świeżych, egzotycznych owoców.
Przed posiłkiem otrzymaliśmy bezpłatną przystawkę w postaci trójkącików przypominających słone i lekko tłuste nachosy, ale w wesji 3D :) Do tego REWELACYJNY majonez sojowy, o idealnej konsystencji i pysznym smaku oraz równie dobry sos pomidorowy a la pico de gallo.
Po posiłku otrzymaliśmy po kieliszku zielonej herbaty . To miłe gesty :)
Minusem Amaluny jest okropnie długi czas oczekiwania przy niemal pustej restauracji wieczorową porą oraz bardzo wysokie ceny. Plusem jest świetny wegański fast food i ładne wnętrze.

Very friendly service and an entirely vegan menu in the middle of carnivorous Punta Cana. I ordered their asian menu and most of my dishes were from the lebanese menu, so I was disappointed, but I'd go back to try their a la carte menu. It's a bit on the enpensive side, but overall, I enjoyed the experience.

Read moreWe visited Amaluna because we are vegan, but this restaurant has delicious food for everyone! The restaurant is 100% vegan. Our waiter who is also the restaurant manager, Mario, was exceptional, helpful and very kind.
How to find it:
It is situated near a large plaza area. It is found next to Hotel Merngue but we passed it without knowing a few times. Right before the hotel there is a small street that you need to walk down (about 100 feet) to get to Amaluna. The street is not very well-lit at night, but it’s a very short walk.
The food:
So yummy. I ordered the ravioli amaluna ($15USD). It was so flavorful and tasted like everything had been just picked from the garden; so fresh tasting. You can see and taste that they put in a lot of time to make the food taste amazing. My husband got the black pasta ($15USD). I had to steal a bite. This was also very flavorful.
Price:
The prices are good for this place. We are eating fresh vegan food on an island (mock meats and vegan cheeses). These are not easy to come by. The price ranges from $15 to $25 USD.
There are some cats that are on the property but they mind their own business and don't come near people. The place is very clean and we will definitely be going back to eat here again.

I've been to AmaLuna yesterday night and I felt so comfortable and welcome, I'm delighted about the care they have of details which transmits the love and passion they put in what they do. Best Vegan food on the island, period! - Edit
What is the biggest problem when traveling and you're vegan? Finding a restaurant that is vegan or at least vegan-friendly. The first night I was in Punta Cana we found Amaluna on Happy Cow. We visited and you could say the rest is history. We spent 7 days on the island and 4 nights we enjoyed dinner with Magda, Ornel, and Javier. We felt like we were family. We tried to eat every meal on the menu. Everyone was great and inventive. The plating was remarkable. You can tell that Javier and Magda put their heart and soul into each one. If you visit Punta Cana make sure you stop and visit you won't miss the meat, trust me.

The lab part of the name is appropriate in that it is indicative of the experimentation taking place here but to me the creativity on the (bamboo) plates is more art than science. The owner/chef Maddalena is an artist with flavours and textures. We were fortunate to be there on the restaurants 2nd anniversary when she did a special menu that included her vegan version of crab cakes and ceviche. They were amazing. The ceviche tasted and had the mouth feel of fish/scallop ceviche (heart of palm standing in for the scallops) and the crab cakes nailed it. This is not tofu fakery ('tofurkey'?, tofu burgers? really?) but a mixing of plants and spices to create flavours and textures of foods I used to eat but now either can't (allergies) or won't (as AnaLuna's motto says: animals are our friends, and we don't eat our friends). They even accommodated my sesame allergy (although a word to the wise, if you are sesame sensitive and visiting a Spanish country, both sésamo and ajonjoli are sesame, the first seems to apply to the larger black seeds and the second to the smaller white ones; something bitter experience in Spanish countries has taught me).
Read moreIt is not cheap, (primarily in comparison to other restaurants in the local area) but I'd argue that it is not that expensive either, both for what you get and for what we are used to paying at home for food of a similar type (but far inferior quality, creativity and remarkably, quantity). The Chinese selection (four courses, eaten on a different night) left us stuffed.
This is good food. This is remarkable food. Go there if you like good creative food. You need not be vegan to appreciate what is going on here but if you are, it is wonderful to discover what can be done with plants.
Pros: Wonderful atmosphere, The food, the food, the food!
Cons: Opens late (7:00 or 8:00 pm depending on the day), wear mosquito repellant (but it is worth it)

Great vegan food in Punta Cana! - Edit
I had seen this restaurant on Happy Cow before traveling to Punta Cana. To my surprise, it ended up being literally around the corner from my hotel (Hotel Merengue). It is only open for dinner and closed completely on certain days. Only accepts cash. My omnivore boyfriend went with me and he loved his veggie burger! I got a hot dog, also really good. They had a big menu to select from with fancier options and a junk food page. We got 2 alcoholic drinks, the burger, the hot dog, and a chocolate crepe for desert, and it all came to around $40 (Not sure if we were charged for the water we had too or not). Food came with a little chip/dip appetizer and it all looked really well presented. The restaurant is half outdoors, with oil lamps and a couple cute little kitties roaming around. The food was great, especially the sauces they come with, but pretty pricey, which is why we only went there once. It's definitely worth a stop but be prepared to drop some cash $$$.
