Super vegan croissants, baked goods & else

Not sure whether some of the older reviews, bemoaning lack of choice or high prices are still valid. We found Alnatura to be an excellent shop. We bought French quality croissants here daily as well as some other baked goods and our rolls. Everything was pearly marked vegan at the bakery.
The store also had a good selection of vegan meats, cheeses and even had vegan Flammkuchen which we made at home. Overall we felt the shop was good value for money, but then again we are happy paying a bit extra for vegan food that is organic too.

Pros: High quality vegan croissants, Vegan Flammkuchen, Good choice of cheese and meats

Cons: Would like more vegan regional food (e.g. Spätzle)

Nice store, good location, everything you could need for veg

This is a larger location with a complete selection. Prices on Alnatura brand items are less expensive than other options, and often less expensive than vegan options in other grocery stores. Selection of brands might be limited, but in my opinion, the cost differential (especially at a time of inflation) matters. For example: I can pay 2-3 euros for a large soy yogurt (or coconut, cashew, oat - all available here in Alnatura brands) elsewhere, or less than 2 euros (1,59 for soy) at this Alnatura. They also have an excellent selection of Lammsbraeu and other organic beers. They are the only shop I can find Stellar Organics wines - it is an organic South African wine with no additional sulfur, meaning I can drink it and not get migraines. They also have local organic wines; actually, the whole shop strives to carry local brands. This includes the local fair trade nut company (fairfood Freiburg GmBH) and a range of Pfandwerk (multiple reusable glass containers) products. They also have a large range of vegan chocolate and "like-chocolate" products (I am particularly fond of Rapunzel chocolates). Finally, the produce section is better than other grocery stores in town, and if you are vegetarian and eat cheese, they are one of the few places that carries many organic, local options in the fresh food section.

Pros: Reasonable prices, Fresh foods section, Fair trade and local products

Not the best for vegans

Alnature is a good option for people who buy organic food. You can find foods here that you wouldn't find somewhere else. That being said, I think that REWE and Edeka have developed into having even better vegan options than Alnatura. Vegan options in German grocery stores have risen in quantity and quality throughout 2020 and 2021.

If you fancy alternatives, such as health-minded date-cookies, lentil-pasta and chickpea-crisps, Alnatura is the place to go. If you want vegan milk, cheese, meats, ice cream, etc, I recommend Edeka or REWE.

Good option for foodshopping

This is a well-stocked Alnatura store that has a lot of vegan options. Besides food, there is also a large variety of cosmetics and essential oils (more than in some other stores of this chain). The store is quite spacious and the location is very good, just a short walk from the minster.

Pros: Many vegan options, Spacious, good location, Friendly staff

organic supermarket

I don't agree with the previous review, this is a nice store with lots of vegan options. There is no all vegan store in Freiburg, so the alnatura supermarkets are one of your better choices. Rewe only has a few standard items, and I doubt that the organic versions are any cheaper.

Don't bother.

Directly below this store is Rewe, which has the same vegan products at better prices. They seem overly excited about their organic meat and milk, and not about vegan products.

Cons: Expensive, not more choices than mainstream stores
