Fantastic food

Given the high price tag at Alchemilla, I was a little worried that the vegan menu would be disappointing, but I was very wrong!
Every single course was incredible. It’s advertised as 7 courses but it could be considered 13 depending on how you count it. The vegan menu (make sure you let them know in advance) was thoughtful and inventive. The flavours were delicious and I definitely tasted some things I’ve never tasted before.
The staff were brilliant as well.
I’d definitely recommend Alchemilla we absolutely loved it!

Dissapointing

Had their 10 course tasting menu and was quite disappointed. I had extremely high hopes but the dishes were a miss for me. It started off really strong with the amuse bouche but the mains and desserts were meh. Not sure if it was a bad menu.

High End Dining

Alchemilla is a smart, fine dining restaurant offering meat, vegetarian and vegan tasting menus. Choose from 5 (lunch only), 7 & 10 courses with or without wine pairings (the wine pairings are vegetarian/vegan too as appropriate and the sommelier, when we visited anyway, was a vegan so you can be sure that they understand this).

I mentioned that I was a vegan when booking and checked that the wine pairings would also be vegan. They are booked up well in advance, particularly for Saturday evenings but we opted for a 1.30pm slot on a Saturday and that worked really well – especially as we opted for the 10 courses and so were in there over 3 hours. Throughout, the staff were friendly, informed and attentive without intruding.

The whole experience was fantastic and the food was the best I have had anywhere. I really felt that the vegan options were completely on a par with the meat ones and there was a vegan alternative of everything (e.g. homemade olive oil butter with the delicious bread and fruit jellies with the coffee). My partner, although very tempted by the vegan menu, opted for the meat version. Several of the courses were the same but where they weren't, he had a taste of mine so that he could score each course, declaring it a draw at the end.

I've uploaded a photo of the menu I had when we visited. Highlights were the cauliflower, celeriac (which I'm not normally a fan of), leeks & hazelnut, cabbage & almond and the rhubarb & liquorice. Oh, and the very mushroomy mushroom tart amuse bouche. Yes, that's a lot of highlights but the food was amazing.

It's not cheap but for good reason. I definitely felt that it was worth every penny and will be back in the future.

Pros: Amazing food and wine., Friendly, informed staff., Vegan menu on a par with the meat.

Cons: It's booked up well in advance.

Vegan fine dining

A real treat - a full vegan tasting menu with 5, 7 or, for the very hungry, 10 courses. We went for 7 - complete with amuse bouche and thick crusted bread with olive oil butter.

Alex Bond has always featured vegetables as the main event in many of his dishes, so we were looking forward to a full plant based meal - and rightly so!
Whilst we didn’t get the full on theatre of the liquid nitrogen freezing the mousse that our fellow diners marvelled at, there was no sense that ‘our’ menu was secondary in any way.

Delicate textures, visually stunning and beautiful flavours. Highly recommended for a treat - and worth a trip to Nottingham for vegans outside the area. Nottingham is punching above its weight for vegan fare!

Pros: Would give it 5 as a rating, But I can’t cos of the rating system, Which only allows 5 star for full veggie

Cons: Cost means that it’s only for special occasions
