Good Indian option in Istanbul

This seems to be one of the best Indian restaurants in Istanbul in terms of price vs quality and quantity of vegetarian options.

The menu is typical of other Indian restaurants abroad, with various curries, rice, samosa, onion bhaji, naan bread etc. Unfortunately they don't have anything like dosas or other similar options, but that's not surprising.

There is a good whole page of vegetarian curry options along with the nominally vegetarian (or possibly vegan) pakora, onion bhaji etc.

The food itself is very good. For two people, you can just get something like a single dish of vegetable biryani, with two curries and maybe side dishes, which is quite a filling meal. They will ask you how spicy you would like the curries.

Vegans may or may not have a good time here, I'm not really sure - presumably there are at least some options. I did try to ask the staff if the garlic naan was made using egg and they claimed it wasn't, but you may need to be quite specific about no butter etc.

The prices are quite reasonable for Indian food in Istanbul. Staff usually are able to speak English.

The location is also very central, just a 5 minute walk from Taksim square down Siraselviler cad.

Note: a number of other Indian restaurants have since appeared on the same street nearby, so make sure you have the right place (entrance is via lobby of "Taksim Star" hotel).

Pros: Good food and vegetarian selection, Reasonable prices, Central location

Cons: Vegan options not clear, No alcohol on menu
