Really creative and tasty! - Edit
It's a beautiful place a little outside of the main area of Bacalar, but definitely worth the trip. The place feels really classy!
Read moreFirst, I received free water plus a small glass of kombucha. Later a small cup of tea plus a tiny piece of an energyball. All complimentary.
I couldn't see any eggs/diary on the menu.
I had the avocado toast (185 pesos, amazing taste!) and the banana peanut smoothie (105 pesos, tasty but a little sweet and not thick).
Would definitely recommend! It's a lovely place!
There's wifi and toilets.
Pros: Dishes are creative and tasty!, Complimentary stuff, Beautiful place
Cons: Quite expensive, A little off the main area

Very slow day - Edit
Kombucha (pineapple) was great, taco's ok, waiting time was pretty bad.
Read moreIt wasn't that crowded, but it took a very long time before we could order. After that, had to wait for more than 30min to get some taco's.
We were not the only ones to have to wait that long.

Best vegan food in Mexico so far - Edit
We spent a week in Playa and Tulum with really good Mexican food, but had to drive through Bacalar to experience this absolute gem of a vegan restaurant. The food here rivals the quality of kitchens in LA or London - don’t be fooled by their non-descript menu, each dish is prepared with creativity and tons of flavour. We had the Jamaican flower tacos (5/5 stars) and the Okonomiyaki (4.5/5) which were generous in portion size and super tasty. If we come back to this part of Mexico we’ll definitely visit again!

Amazing and special! - Edit
This restaurant has an amazing menu with very special dishes, for dessert for example they have a red bean brownie and an avocado chocolate mousse.
Read moreThe service is very good and they turn the visit into an experience- they give you a kombucha [censored] to start with and in the end they serve you a small energy ball and a small glass of tea.
Definitely recommend this place.
Pros: Special dishes, 100% vegan, Very good service and they speak English , It has a fancy vibe but not too much

Fantastic food - Edit
The service was excellent here, they couldn’t do enough for me. I’ll be coming back a few times before leaving Bacalar. I had the Okonomiyaki which was like a crepe with vegetables and sauce. So good! The combination of flavours is something really well thought out. I was also given tasters to try some of the Moringa soup, would recommend, and the homemade kombucha, also really tasty.

Incredible vegan food, atmosphere and service - Edit
Their menu covers a range of cuisines which are clearly created with care (I had the Thai rolls, Ramen Tom Yum and a smoothie), feel very fresh (they grow some of the ingredients, and get others from Mayan farmers in nearby towns), and each presented with their own elegant twist.
Read moreWe dined in the front garden which is spacious but feels cozy with all the natural surroundings that enclose it.
They served us a couple of suprise little extras throughout our meal which was a nice touch.
Most memorably, we were also offered a tour of the restaurant's back garden, where they grow and dry various herbs and plants, which we gladly accepted. (We came at a time when it wasn't very busy, so not sure this can always be accommodated for).
Overall a remarkably pleasant, enjoyable and memorable first experience of Bacalar. Thanks!
Pros: Delicious, fresh, well presented food, Caring service, Pleasant atmosphere
Cons: Need dish descriptions on paper menu (are online)

Best kombucha ever - Edit
The pineapple kombucha which they make in-house was the best I ever had! It put the ones in stores to shame. It was sweet and tasty. The waiters provided small free samples in addition to my ordered food and it had a real restaurant feel which isn’t common for most vegan places I’ve tried which have felt more grab and go. I was pleased with the gluten free options! I loved the stuffed mushroom and vegan sushi.
Read morePro-tip, get both and save the leftovers, eat them together. They compliment each other very much and if you refrigerate it, you don’t need to warm it up because it tastes great cold like sushi. Good vacation tip.

How does this place not have 5 stars?! - Edit
I’d like to start off by saying, you’re no longer in the states and the lifestyle here is not going to be that. If you want 10 minute food service, stay in the US, or understand culture is different and a relaxing slow paced meal to enjoy with friends and family is common place. That being said, WOW! This was the best vegan options we’ve tried in Mexico and we did a tour through 6 states on our way in! Creatively crafted, well flavored, we had to come twice while we were here.
Read moreFirst visit we had the stuffed portobello, okinomiyaki maki, tacos, and the cheesecake. The entree’s were all to die for, the serving size was huge, and we were so impressed. The cheesecake left a little to be desired as it’s more deconstructed than traditional cheesecake I was craving but the flavors were great.
Second visit we came for breakfast and had the enfrijoladas, avocado toast, and they even let me order the Thai roll from the main menu for breakfast which was so kind! We also had some of their specialized drinks; a spiced latte and a spirulina power. Latte was okay but had great flavor, I just like a stronger coffee personally, and the spirulina was top tier. Serving sizes were great, presentation was stunning and the crafted flavors and creativity were next level. I was a little iffy on if I’d like all that came on the avocado toast but wow, the flavors worked together splendidly and I was inspired! I will come back to Bacalar just to eat here 🥹 (we live in Belize so only a day drive, I will certainly be back LOL)
Please try this place and leave reviews that are kind, this is one of the few all vegan options in the area and they deserve all of the business and praise!
Pros: Creatively crafted, well flavored dishes , Well priced , Friendly service
Cons: Cheesecake was just okay , Spiced latte needed more coffee

Fantastic place, concept and staff - Edit
I don't understand the bad reviews. This restaurant is a gem you could easily find in any European city. We went to Agni for breakfast and dinner multiple times and had a beautiful experience every time. Very creative and detail oriented menu, interesting products and a lot of home grown ingredients. The service is super friendly and attentive. This place is a bit on the pricier side, but it's absolutely worth it. Feels like a fine dining experience. Would love to come back again! There seem to be things on the menu that aren't as flavorful (my only explanation for the bad reviews). Also we asked the staff to show us the garden and loved it. Also we found the portion sizes to be more than fair.

Overall a very good restaurant… - Edit
There are many pros and a few cons about this place. I dined there with two friends and two of us had a great meal and one of us did not. I and one of my friends ordered the okonomiyaki . It was very good. My other friend ordered the Raman Tom Yum. Unfortunately, it was horrible. Vermicelli noodles instead of Raman noodles were used. The broth was an oily, tasteless concoction. The restaurant should consider removing this dish from the menu or have the chef learn how to prepare it since it was the second most expensive item on the menu. The meal began with a sample of kombucha which was tasty. Small cups of soup were served which were also tasty. After the main course, tea with a small coconut ball was served. The atmosphere was pleasant, the staff was friendly and the prices fair. One final note. The waiter told my friend that his dish could be prepared with egg. This is listed as a plant based/vegan restaurant where eggs should not be on the menu. Having said all that, I would still rate this as the best vegan restaurant in Bacalar.

Agni, a small but mighty bistro in Bacalar - Edit

I’m quite confused as to the poor reviews- i went tentatively, and had a wonderful experience. The menu was robust, the foods were creative, nutrient dense, fiber rich, and delicious. My favorite kind of vegan meal. Both my partner and i were impressed! Will definitely be back!

Skip the place if you love yourself - Edit
Even though the place is beautiful, there is zero atmosphere and the service is extremely slow. They left out 2 items from our order of 4 dishes and 3 drinks.
Read moreThe ramen tom yum was terrible and seemingly they realized it so we didn’t have to pay for it, the gesture was nice, but still, the crew seemed poorly organized and demotivated.
The avocado toast was okay, the okonomiyaki wasn’t bad , which is far from a satisfying meal.
The brownie was served with some peanut butter, drawned in a strange strawberry smoothie-leftover like sauce and with some tasteless chocolate-pastilles. It wasn’t good at all.
So we left the place with a huge disappointment..
