Nice vegan options - Edit
After almost 2 weeks with only Italian food I was thrilled to find vegan african food.
Read moreThe food was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
I wish I could give five stars but that’s not possible because the restaurant is not fully vegan or vegetarian.
The only thing I didn’t like was that the waitress told me that I can’t get couscous as my side dish because she thought that it wouldn’t fit my main dish. Maybe she was right but it would’ve been nice to have the choice.
Pros: Nice interior, One of the best foods I’ve ever had, No touristy area
Cons: The staff doesn’t speak English

Great range of food - Edit
Lovely to switch up what you eat and not just have Italian food on the Venice trip. Africa experience is a great place to do this, great value, tasty food, good portion sizes

This place is located in a more quiet area of town.

Tasty Vegan Ethiopian Lunch - Edit
The restaurant has Italian and African food. Others had a vegetarian artichoke lasagna that looked good. I had their daily set lunch menu, which was vegan Ethiopian. I also ordered injera - it was made fresh for me. I've never experienced that. Vegan Ethiopian was a welcome break from Italian, even though I could eat pasta every day. If you ask for vegan, I think they would go out of way to accommodate you. The street is off the beaten path, with small interesting shops. This place is small too.

Tasty vegetarian food - Edit
I loved this place. The ambiance is very pleasing with great decor and peppy music from all over Africa. It was a long walk from our apartment near San Marco but we enjoyed discovering new neighborhoods along the way. The food was delicious. We started with an antipasti for two and then two main course dishes: one with okra and a side of rice and lentils and the other cabbage and lentils on top of enjara bread. I wish I could have finished it but we ordered tooooo much.

No - Edit
Locale carino, ma sporco. Poche opzioni vegane mediocri. Si salva lo stufato di verdure. La signora che ci ha servito molto gentile. Il signore con il cappello, forse il proprietario, non ci ha mai rivolto la parola, cosa che invece ha fatto con altri commensali.

Not enough food - Edit
Taking a vegan main course (the veggie stew) I was left rather hungry. I only got a handfull of rice and a little bit of veggies. I had to take another course.
Read moreAs mentioned before, the food is a bit oily and kept warm. At least my stew was tasty. My boyfriend took the chefs choice for 15 euro (vegan on request) and was happy with it.
Pros: tasty, friendly waiter
Cons: not enough food, not labeled, rather expensive for what you get

Pretty mid but a good option for hungry vegans - Edit
Africa Experience is a little "African-fusion" restaurant tucked away in Dorsoduro, away from the biggest crowds in Venice. The service was good, although the atmosphere inside the restaurant is very "relaxed" and sort of chaotic at times. The food is nothing special and the portions are not particularly generous considering how cheap the ingredients were (rice, legumes, veggies), but everything is seasoned correctly. As vegans we were super happy to find some healthy fare during our Venice day trip, so all in all I'd recommend it.
Read moreP.S. The artichoke lasagna is NOT vegan. The waitress confirmed it had milk in it.
Pros: A few vegan options, Price in line with expectations
Cons: Food is mid

Might not be what most tourists come for but Mi piace molto - Edit
Nice african food. I was happy to find something different then the expensive tourist restaurants with okay italian food. The prices are good too. I would come back. The music is kinda not restauranty but I enjoyed it, nothing unpleasant. And I really enjoyed my hibiscus pineapple drink.

With an entire section of the menu dedicated to vegetables, not much could go wrong. Staff was helpful in confirming which options were vegan. Plates were huge and super tasteful. Also the antipasti from the table next to ours looked incredible.

Good variety - Edit
Very nice variation from italian cuisine (always pasta pomodoro) in venice. Prices are fair and service was friendly and fast. We weren’t that hungry but managed to eat three courses nevertheless. All very good. Sadly they aren’t on Instagram and also a bit hard to find in the small alley. But it’s worth the effort. Would eat here again.

Something different in Italy for a vegan - Edit
Africa Experience has knowledgeable and friendly staff. The vegan appetizers plate is excellent (I asked for hummus instead of the yogurt sauce, the only substitution needed).
Read moreAnother evening I had the chef's choice vegan plate but found some of the offerings a bit oily (my only complaint). I have dined there 4 times. Their ginger herbal tea is excellent. The one waiter was working the whole place (full on a Saturday night) with patience, a laugh, and expert timing. Excellent service, food, ambiance, and value for the money.
Pros: Plenty of vegan options., Reasonably priced, Authentic and varied dishes
Cons: Too much oil in some dishes (for my tastes)
