Lots of options! - Edit
There is an extra vegan menu with lots of options to choose from.
Read moreI really liked the dishes, the bread, injera, which they are served on, just wasn't for me, it was to sour. It was my first time eating ethopian, and I am sure, thats how its supposed to be like, I sadly just didnt like it, and it kind of ruined the other dishes for me, because there was no rice or something else.
Super friendly staff and I think really authentic.

Great vegan selection & separate menu - Edit
Tried the two course tasting menu which was a great experience. It’s like different one pot style dishes with legumes or veggies which you eat using the theff crepes. Very delicious and great experience. Staff is super attentive.

Some of the best Ethiopian food I've ever had - Edit
We enjoyed the substantial vegan sharing platter so much that we went back a second time during our week in Cape Town. The Shiro Wat was so amazing that we ordered an extra portion. Injera was made with 100% teff. The service was friendly and the atmosphere comfortable, with traditional seating. Highly recommended!

Top notch! Must try experience! - Edit
I can’t believe that I have never tried Ethiopian food before because OMG it is delicious! What a wonderful foray into this delicious vegan friendly food at the lovely Addis in Cape. Immediately, fell in love with the decor, atmosphere and traditional touches. My server Bao ( spelling ?) was friendly and explained the cuisine and options.
Read moreI had the set vegan meal for one. Vegan options clearly marked pn menu. My server highly recommended Misir Wot ( split red lentils cooked in onions and garlic in Berbere spices) and I chose my second dish Pumpkin Alicha. Honestly, the meal was divine, full of flavour and absolutely delicious! This meal has made me a huge fan of Ethiopian food now! If you have never tried Ethiopian food or are already a fan of it, do make sure to stop in here. You will not be disappointed!!
Pros: several vegan options clearly marked , friendly, attentive service, good portions reasonably priced

We shared the vegan set menu. It was absolutely delicious. A bit on the expensive side at full price but we managed to go on a night where they had 50% off special.

We opted for the Combo for Two. It’s a tasting menu with many different dishes. Salad, spinach, mushrooms, lentil, chickpeas and more. I couldn’t memorise all of them. Versatile and delicious. They have a very big vegan menu.

Could be a bit more herby. It's not the best Ethiopian restaurant I have ever been but it's definitely great. Entire vegan menu with many options. We loved all lentil dishes. Absolutely gorgeous restaurant. Pro tip: use the entertainer app and go for lunch to save a lot $$

Options galore - Edit
A whole section of the menu is vegan, so many tempting options. We ordered a few different things to share which worked well with the communal style of eating. The Pumpkin Wot was beautifully done and a good chance for the waiter to play hard at hearing and make a few jokes/puns - “you want the what?!”

African Experience - Edit
Addis is like nothing you've ever tried before.
Read moreIt's more than a meal out, it's an experience.
You sit on a mix and match of low wooden seats. A hand crafted table in front of you. The decor is bright, happy and African.
Most people order the shared platter which is a mix of different curries and stews eaten by hand with a white flat roll up crepe like bread thing.
I loved the coffee ritual which comes with frankinsense and popcorn.
Pros: An African experience, Tasty food
Cons: Not easy to find parking

We have been to this restaurant many times and the food is always delicious! Our favourites are the vegan starter and then for mains the Misir Wot and Defin Misir Alicia Wot with the side veg of white cabbage, potatoes and carrots cooked the Ethiopian way. Wonderful flavours and great experience! A lovely place to take friends and family too.

Great find in Capetown! - Edit
As a family that is half vegan and half vegetarian, we were very pleased to come across Addis in Cape! The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and accommodating (helped us to call our hotel for pick up, and waited with us outside), and the whole vibe of the restaurant is awesome in itself. To eat here is a great experience, and they have a whole section of their menu that is designated vegan.

The menu here is half vegan, half meat. I've been here many times for dinner with a group of people and everyone always falls in love with this place. Not only is the food delicious, the environment sets everything up for a fun evening. Don't forget to make a reservation in advance though!

Fabuluos food. Great eating experience. - Edit
We opted for the sharing platter from the vegan menu. There was plenty of food, all of which was delicious, full of flavour and very colourful! There's a lot to chose from and eating without cutlery is an eating experience with a difference but we loved it. Definitely worth a visit f you're in Cape Town.

A great experience - Edit
I love Ethiopian food and living in New Zealand there isn't any. So my partner and I were stoked to eat here! The menu is 50/50 vegetarian and meat fare. The restaurant is huge and spans 3 levels. The middle level is decorated beautifully with furniture and beautiful artwork from Ethiopia. The ceiling has fabric brollies which double up as lamp shades which give a wonderful ambiance. The staff are very polite and dressed smartly. They fully understand the concept of veganism and know all about the dishes, as well as advising on the best value lunch specials of the day. We had the lunch special which was a medium size portion of each of the vegan friendly dishes. Some of the food can be really spicy so if that's a problem for you then make sure you let them know in advance. Everything tasted amazzzzzing. I also loved the potato which is soft and creamy and just great. I came back again to eat with my family and to save any hassle we chose to eat the vegetarian platter. I can't really imagine what it would be like if your family wanted to eat meat and you wanted to eat veggie. If you really couldn't compromise they do offer to leave the dishes inside their plates instead of emptying them onto the injera. Somebody else in the reviews said it was expensive. I don't really get that. Top notch service, amazing venue and fantastic food. We paid 180 rand for all our drinks and the food. That's only 33 New Zealand Dollars! You'd pay that for one person in New Zealand. I love this place and would recommend that everybody try it at least once.

Addis in Cape, Cape Town - Edit
This place is in Cape Town city centre on the corner of Long Street.
Read moreThere is a section on the menu that is clearly marked, 'vegetarian & vegan' - all of these dishes are vegan except the last dish as this ocntains egg.
The food is served on these big trays that have bread made from rice flour rolled across it. The food is eaten by taking a piece of bread and using that to scoop up the food - no cutlery is used. The food was was very pleasant as is the vibe of the place.
I ate alone here and since this place also sells non vegetarian food then this place appears to be an option for a compromise venue for anyone looking to eat with a friend who refuses to eat vegetarian. For 100% vegetarian there are other places available in the Long Street area.
Pros: Vegan vegie friendly, Fun, Central
Cons: Not 100% veggie

a light in the dark... - Edit
you can find a lot of veggie options in this place and the atmosphere is relaxed, though you're better of with a reservation in advance. People from cape town love this place. I had ethopien food in different parts of the globe, but this is so far my favorite.
Read moreIf you consider yourself a diehard veggie, it's probably the wrong place, as you might share the plate with your meat eating friends. Don't miss lunch at the portobello!
