Fijn restaurant met lekkere, originele gerechten. Goede sfeer, fijne bediening. Enige minpuntje was een ontbrekende drankenkaart.

Ik ben hier al een aantal keer geweest en elke keer sta ik weer versteld van hoe innovatief, creatief en heerlijk de gerechten zijn. Er wordt gekookt met ingrediënten uit het seizoen en het menu veranderd constant. Leuke bediening en passende locatie.

Fine dining: delicious and very good price! - Edit
One can choose between 3-4- or 5 courses of the set menu (one can also have pairing wines or pairing non-alcoholic drinks, which we didn't have).

Too many ingredients to list all here, but every dish was really delicious! Wonderful combinations and nice presentation too!
And I absolutely loved the 'butter' that came with the bread, really creamy and a cheese like taste (one note: would have loved it if you offered us some more bread and butter).
Very friendly service.
It took quite a while between 1st and 2nd course (45 minutes ... we were getting a bit annoyed), but later courses were served in a more timely way (some tables had left by that time, so it was probably more quiet in the kicthen by then).
The restaurant is located in a communal building (also hosting a club, etc). Many stairs to the restaurant (didn't see an accessible entrance), so not accessible.
Toilets were communal with the club, and a bit shabby (and there was no more paper to dry ones hands).
I was sat on a bench against the wall, there were some cushions, but it was not really comfortable. Very dark, a nice atmosphere, but very difficult to take decent food photos😁
Foodwise: 55€ for 5 courses is a very VERY good price here (if this was in Belgium, certain plantbased chefs would easily charge 100€ ... - please don't take this as a hint😉). And we were more than full with 5 courses!
If this place were closer, we would definitely visit again!

Super interesting evening that was surprisingly filling in the end. The atmosphere was nice. It's not expected to appear particularly fancy. The service is very friendly and personal, the location very nice and had a queer event next door that evening. The menu had a fresh and lemony theme that was a nice journey to explore.

Heerlijk gegeten bij dit restaurant midden in Groningen stad. De asperge had de hoofdrol in het 6 gangen verassingsmenu, maar ook de “lion’s mane” en een gerecht met aardpeer kwamen aan bod.

Heerlijk gegeten maar helaas onder tijdsdruk van een theater bezoek. Dit is zo'n plekje waar je heerlijk de hele avond allerlei smaken kunt ervaren.

Voor de verjaardag van me vriendin en te vieren dat we een huis gekocht hebben, zijn we wezen eten bij Achterwerk. Vriendelijk personeel en het eten is buitenaards lekker. Combinatie wat je niet verwacht maar echt een smaakbelevenis is. Daarnaast is de wijn arrangement perfect afgestemd op de gerechten. Wat een fijne tent. Wel aan de prijs, maar dat is qua kwaliteit en format goed in balans. Volledig veganistisch, keuze uit 4, 5 of 6 gangen verrassingsmenu.

Heerlijk gegeten bij Achterwerk. Als je voor de zes gangen gaat, zit je ruim drie uur te tafelen. Het is het waard!

When entering the building (it feels like a club), you would not expect a fine dining experience. However Achterwerk offers a no nonsense fine dining experience (no linnen, dresscode or other stiff/formal stuff). Tastes were good, surprising but sometimes a bit too salty.

I've been to Achterwerk multiple times and like their approach to food and dining. They are able to create tasty vegan fine dining dishes with different textures, tastes and feels. I must say that sometimes their taste is a bit off (too salty or sour) so that one taste overpowers the dish, but they are open to feedback. Since the cook changed the food is also a bit different. Because I've been here so often it sometimes feels like the same trick 'a puree of this with a crunch of that and a grilled sth with a sauce of this and a oil/vinaigrette of that'. But hea: its mostly very tasty and they tryin' be inventive😄so cheers to that!

Just wonderful! We’ve had such a pleasant and interesting experience here. Actually, we had only ordered four courses, but in the end we were brought a total of seven different dishes with additional small appetisers and a greeting from the kitchen. Many, many thanks to the entire team that celebrate vegan cuisine with this wonderful restaurant! 🍒

So, i went to this place when it just opened. The dishes were all high cuisine pieces of art. Of you like that kind of experience, it will be up your alley. Personally, I warmed up half a kilo of kale mash when I got home because my body was still telling me I had to eat more.

Nice location, it seems you're going to a club when you're going up the stairs to the restaurant floor, and indeed we found out to our surprise after dinner that there's a club in the same building. No noise at all in the restaurant though. The dishes are really creative with unusual combinations of ingredients that make them unique. I ate nothing that I had tried before. The menu changes every month (or every three months? Was a bit tipsy by the end of the meal and can't remember well) but yesterday was the last day of the menu we had. Had nice chats with two of the 3 waiters that served us (Ari and a Welsh girl that is going to return to UK soon), felt really welcome.

We liked the main course and dessert (although it was REALLY sweet), but the starter and all the amuse were really not that great (e.g. a bouillebaisse foam that tasted like tomato puree from the can and a citrus granita that was so sour I couldn't eat it). Apart from that, the first dishes came slowly, and the last two felt rushed because I guess we had to leave the tables for the next time slot. Overall not such a great experience (especially for the price) and I feel this place is a bit over-hyped.

Vegan Haute Cuisine by Real People - Edit
Extremely Delicious! Last week we went to Groningen for the second time -just for Achterwerk- and again it was well worth it! I don't need to go on holidays when I can eat here; for the 4/5course diner is a full culinair journey on itself. I advise this place to anyone who needs to be shown that there's a world to discover when you eat vegan to show its not just leaving the meat and dairy out of traditional cuisine. I get inspired here. The people are real, passionate, kind, helpful and know what they are serving and even if you don't choose to take the 'wine arrangement' the team is pleased to set you up with perfectly other matching drinks/beers/non alcoholic with any course. I am jealous of the people working here for I think it is great to indulge and happily surprise each and every visitor. I'm sad to hear that Achterwerk is due to close its doors in the nearby future. I would love to visit this team and place again and hope they'll hang in there! Either way, be wise! Go visit this place before it's too late and be treated to an outrageous delicious evening!

This is one of the top vegan restaurants in the Netherlands. The food is creative and absolutely delicious, there is a wine pairing with the 4/5 course menu and the staff is open and friendly. Could not recommend more.
