EXCELLENT

You have to visit this place, the serving sizes are massive, there's tons of vegan options, and you will leave stuffed. The staff is highly knowledgeable about vegan options and the food is so, so good. Absolutely must go.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Huge serving sizes, Good prices

Excellent

I really enjoyed my takeout vegan plate and generous sized injera. The spicy lentil dish was a little too spicy for me, but I enjoyed a few bites before tapping out. Everything was fresh and well-seasoned. Service was pleasant and speedy. I look to returning and dining in next time.

Pros: Clearly labeled vegan options , Vegan option is delicious , Very nice owners

Best in town

I lived in the Bay and they have outstanding Ethiopian/Eritrean food there so I know my flavors and quality when I taste it. Forget the other, more popular Ethiopian restaurant in Sac, you know, that one on Broadway. Just because it is more known due to location and events, doesn’t mean the food and service is better. Abyssinia though is fabulous. Their food is never bland like that other place. I do wish it was an all vegan Ethiopian joint but I also understand they’d lose the majority of their customer base. Please go to this joint and show them your support. Family owned, friendly without being fake, good portions, fair pricing.

Pros: Vegan platter, Can make injeera GF-call 1 day ahead, Best in town

Cons: Location not popular, Windows blocked-can look closed

Such tasty vegan options.

I have loved Abyssinia for years. Their mixed vegetarian plate is just perfect and always a hit with the whole family, vegan and not. It’s hard to pick a specific favorite so I almost always got with the mixed platter.

Pros: Great flavor, Option to purchase ingredients, Extremely COVID safe

Cons: Atmosphere is basic

SOOO GOOD!

I love Ethiopian food and this place is awesome! I've taken several friends there in the past and recently got food delivered from there through doordash and I have to say even the delivered food was fantastic! They have a platter were you can get the injera and all the different lentil stews that I highly recommend!

Pros: Excellent food, nice staff, affordable

Great food and tea

Enjoyed the vegan sampler platter but the potato salad on special was really amazing and the iced tea is spiced. I came for the food but the tea stole my heart.

Not Good

I was so excited to try this place and even more excited to support. Maybe it was just a bad day but our experience was horrible. We arrived promptly at 11:30 at opening. We requested the vegan buffet. The server stated it was ready so we made our plates. The containers that held the food were all very dirty with old crusty food. It made the food look not so appealing but I didn’t want to leave as I had just finished 3 workouts for the day and was starving! The greens and cabbage were hot but ALL of the lentils and peas were all lukewarm! We asked if this was normal and the server said that some things were supposed to be served that way but she offered to raise the temp on the food for us. The greens were so salty that I literally could not eat them. I love seasoned food but the excess salt was unbearable. The tofu dish was literally floating it oil. I will never return. It was that bad. I was so embarrassed that I’d invited a friend there.

my new favorite

My old favorite Ethiopian place used to be in Berkeley. This is my new favorite. The food is very well prepared with the best combination of spices I've tried. I loved the spicy pumpkin dish I ordered. The staff was also very nice.

Great food in a humble setting

While the restaurant seemed a little worn, the food was spot on. Offered lots of vegan options and provided helpful suggestions navigating the heat in some of the dishes. And when they say spicy they mean it! We came on a warm day and I am not sure about the strength of the air conditioning but hey, the food was solid so I'd come back.

Pros: wide vegan selection, lots of parking

Cons: weak air conditioning on hot day
