Best grocery store - Edit
They have the best customer service. Micheal is always working in supplements and he’s very knowledgeable. They’re always tending to the produce so you know it’ll be both organic and last a long time once you buy it. If you need something they’ll order it for you! They have a lot of vegan options in their freezers. Everything from vegan ice cream, frozen vegan cookie dough, frozen Pattie’s, vegan milks, cheese, and butter. Great selection throughout the store.

Expensive - Edit
Granted I didn't price check the entire store, but the perishable products I knew the price range of at a Whole Foods on the mainland were all really expensive here. Like 2x as much. If you're looking for fresh fruit, just go to Hilo farmers market. They have a way wider selection. The only thing they have going for them here is the grab and go section. Plenty of vegan options that are fairly priced.

Wonderful little grocery store - Edit
We went here a few times during our trip to pick up a quick lunch, travel snacks, and some food souvenirs to take home. Perfect stop before a beach picnic! A number of clearly marked vegan baked goods, salads, and sandwiches in the grab and go cooler and surrounding area. I know everything is more expensive in Hawaii than on the mainland, but most things here were fairly priced, all things considered. Some of the snack items were even cheaper than at our Cleveland Whole Foods. Definitely saved on coffee compared to other places on the island.
Read morePros: Tons of vegan options, Decent prices for most items, Friendly service
Cons: No public restroom, Some items were really pricey

Great location - Edit
We shopped at Abundant Life once during a two-week trip around the island. Compared to other natural food stores, there were not as many vegan options as we anticipated. There was no vegan yogurt in the cooler section. We took out vegan chocolate mousse with coconut cream and some shelf items. The bulk section did not have the assortment found at other places for nuts and grains, but the location was perfect for an addition to a trip to the Farmer's Market or downtown.

Great for vegans - Edit
Lots of vegan choices in this supermarket. If you're in Hilo you should stock up on food before you head off for the day since choices are limited in other parts of the island (except Kona). The vegan burrito was great.

Perhaps the best food on this side of the Island - Edit
This shop got a very nice vegetarian cafe. It is not possible to sit there, but you can eat in the park just outside. They serve vegan burgers(with several different choices of "beef" also soyafree if you prefer). The burgers are really good and so far this is the best place to eat on this side of the island. They also make delicious fresh smoothies that can be made into a protein shake should you wish. If you want to eat out this is my first choice.
Read moreThe shop itself got a fine selection of all a vegetarian can wish for both fresh vegetable and "dry" goods.
Pros: Good and fresh food, Prices reasonable
Cons: No place to sit, Mainly burgers

Vegan burgers - Edit
I had a vegan burger, with Amy's brand American patty and vegenaise. They also had a vegan taro burger on the menu, but the server told me it not as good. I also had a glass of chocolate soymilk. Conveniently located on the main strip of the little town. There is nowhere to sit, it is takeout only.

Great tasting food - Edit
Despite the fact that this is in a cafe setting with limited seating, the food is good although not served quickly if you are in a hurry. We enjoyed a vegan meal here with lots of choice and then ordered a sandwich to go for later. The staff were very accomodating in a rushed atmosphere.

A great natural food place in downtown hilo - Edit
Another good choice if you are vegetarian and on the Big Island. Much busier location and not as convenient parking as Island naturals, but still a nice market and deli selection, right across from the bay.
