Vegan, but only for whole pies

Went in here to try their famous pizza. I guess they think vegans are only good for feeding a whole pie to. They don’t want to risk not enough being sold apparently.

I call this faux vegan offerings since it’s simple not something they have faith in.

Pros: The idea of a slice of vegan pizza , Not much else, Not the counter person

Cons: Don’t offer slices of vegan pie, Looked at me like I was crazy for asking, Seemed over rated. Avoid.

Finally vegan cheese is available

Abbot's has existed in Southern California for decades and is famous for bagel style pizza crusts. However, they've not been vegan-friendly due to the use of egg in the pizza crust and cheese in the marinara sauce.

That's changed, kind of. Now they have vegan cheese (2018). So vegans could get the plain crust (not bagel style) and choose the pesto sauce: both are ok for vegans. -- that's what we got, and the result was pretty tasty.

The only downside is that because the vegan cheese gets a bit oily when melted, and because the pesto contains oil already, the combination makes the pizza oily. But use a napkin and dab off a bit of the oil, and you're good to go.

Overall, their pesto & plain dough is better than your standard pizza joints. I would return again.
