I love the atmosphere here and the croquetas were amazing! The daily noodle soup could have been more flavorful however, next time I’m excited to try more of their ‘Portuguese food done vegan’ options! The dessert was also delicious 🌱

I think it needs improvement - Edit
Food took an extraordinary time to arrive (almost 1h) They told us it’s because I ordered one of the “fish pies”/bacalhau, but everyone else in the restaurant had the same issue and many people were complaining.
Read moreWhen the food arrived I wanted to love it but didn’t think it was anything special and wasn’t blown away by any of the flavours either. Nothing too special. Dessert wise wasn’t any better either. The pudim was the best out of the desserts we tried.
Lovely decor on the bathroom though!

Me encantó todo. La carta tiene principalmente platos tradicionales portugueses inspirados en recetas de la abuela (como dice su propio nombre) en versión plant-bases. Fue muy difícil elegir porque todo tenía una pinta increíble.

Upscale Vegan Portuguese in Saldanha! - Edit
There's been a dearth of restaurants offering plant-based alternatives to Portuguese favorites. So it was a happy circumstance that we found A Minha Avó ("My Grandmother")!
Read moreA Minha Avó's deceptively modest façade belies its sophisticated interior. Entering, there's a short, but relatively steep staircase going down to the below-street-level space, which acts as a foyer before entering the front counter. When we arrived (a little after 12:00), there were already folks seated and ordering. We inquired if it were possible to have lunch for two (having read that it can be difficult to secure a table without a highly-recommend reservation.) Fortunately, we were able to secure a table, but had to vacate by 13:30, which was plenty of time for us. A-OK, we're in! 😄 The larger space in the back (where we were seated) is bright, with a wall of below street-level windows with some vegetation; interior walls were enhanced with decorative flower boxes. It was all very bright and airy and simple.
We began with a couple of refreshing Ocean Beer Lagers (from Spain). For starters, we went with the Pica-Pau (homemade seitan, pickles, parsley and olives, with side basket of sourdough bread [extra]) and Estaladiços de "Alheira" (Portuguese sausage with spinach wrapped in crunchy dough topped with sweet and sour sauce). Both were excellent. For our mains, I did the Francesinha ("[t]ypical Northern dish, with bread, seitan steak, smoked tofu and vegetable chorizo, wrapped in delicious homemade sauce with fried "egg" on top," served with a side of french fries); my better-half went with the Bitoque com "ovo" ("... steak made with [ ] homemade seitan, fried "egg" on top and [ ] typical sauce with wine, mustard, olive oil and garlic," served with fries and white rice). The Bitoque was excellent (from what I tasted). My Francesinha was very good; although, perhaps I should've done my homework on what a Francesinha is because I wasn't too keen on the sauce-soaked bread. That said, it was still an "adventure" I'm glad to have explored. Naturally, there was no room for dessert--which we will definitely save room for our next visit. Service was excellent throughout; empty plates were removed efficiently. As can be expected from an upscale restaurant, prices were on the higher end (for Lisbon's standards), but certainly not outrageous, and well-worth it.
Despite my very slight distaste of the Francesinha, we are so looking forward to returning…!!!

A Must Try - Excellent Portuguese Food - Edit
After a morning of exploring the Parque Eduardo VIII, we proceeded to the highly anticipated A MINHA AVÓ restaurant. Renowned for its Portuguese cuisine adapted to a vegan diet, the restaurant was already bustling upon our arrival, just a few minutes after opening.
The hostess promptly greeted us and seated us in the spacious and well-lit rear dining area. After a brief perusal of the menu, the server returned to our table to take our order.
I commenced with an Ocean Beer Lager, Pica-Pau as the starter, and Bitoque com “ovo” as the main course. Within a few minutes, the Pica-Pau arrived, a traditional Portuguese dish featuring homemade seitan steak, pickled vegetables, parsley, and olives. Its culinary excellence was remarkable. The gravy, infused with a subtle tartness attributed to the pickles, complemented the flavor of the seitan steak.
Upon completing the starter, the server promptly cleared the plates and presented the main course, Bitoque com “ovo” as per the menu’s description. The dish consisted of the most famous Portuguese steak, crafted without homemade seitan, topped with a fried “egg,” and accompanied by the delectable traditional sauce made with wine, mustard, olive oil, and garlic. A side of fries and rice completed the meal.
The Bitoque com “ovo” was nothing short of extraordinary. Its exceptional taste left an indelible impression on my palate. While I yearned to sample the non-vegan version to facilitate a comparative analysis, A MINHA AVÓ’s vegan rendition has surpassed all expectations.
The restaurant’s exceptional dining experience justified the wait and the journey to the Sao Bastian neighborhood. I eagerly anticipate returning to explore additional delectable dishes offered by this culinary gem. #Veganuary

Nice food, very disappointing service - Edit
It was really interesting to try vegan versions of Portuguese dishes, something we prioritize wherever we travel. However, it seems this place is quite poorly managed, and has difficulty with time management and scheduling. We arrived during lunch and were warned immediately we would only be able to have a table for about an hour and 10 minutes, which was fine, we didn't plan to be that long. About 40 minutes later, as we were trying to finish eating, we were told to leave our table because it was getting busy and they needed it. There were many empty tables, and the table next to us had been finished eating for 20 minutes and just scrolling through their phones. We had been willing to order a bit more food, still planning to be out by the original time they asked, but we were really put off by what seemed like very poor time management and communication on their part. Also, the bathroom has a glass door, and is easily visible as people move through the restaurant.
Read moreWe liked the dishes we tried well enough, but we were also curious to try more and didn't get the chance. Disappointing when you do have to travel outside the centre to get there.

Good but not great - Edit
Negatives, the food was almost cold and although it was good I think there was something missing, specially the sauce of the bitoque, too lemony. The highlight for me in terms of flavour was the bolo de bolacha (best vegan I've ever had!) but the slice was super thin for the price you pay. However, I would recommend for the typical Portuguese flavours.

I had never tried Portuguese cuisine outside of Pasteis de Nata, but my God did it blow me away.

Deserts were also another highlight reminding me of my grandmothers cooking.
