Dessert shop known for taro balls and sugarcane sheet ice. Also serves tofu pudding and sweet soups. Menu items with 奶 are lacto-vegetarian. Doesn’t use egg or honey. Open Mon-Sun 2:30pm-11:00pm.
A fellow vegan recommended this dessert shop to me, and although they have a second branch in Ximending, it’s takeout only and has fewer menu options. So I made the trek out to Yonghe District in New Taipei City on the orange line on the MRT. Worth it!
Since I wasn’t sure when I would be returning to this place, I opted for the signature taro combination sugarcane sheet ice (招牌芋見泥蔗片冰). The bowl was ginormous, and I wish I’d shared it with the friend I met up with. Even for two people, I felt like the portion size was generous. The taro balls, tapioca pearls, and rice balls were gloriously chewy. I was intrigued by the sheet ice: this was something I’d never had before and was totally digging.
My friend ordered the pineapple and taro ball sugarcane sheet ice (鳳梨芋圓蔗片冰). Although his bowl didn’t look as big as mine, it was still a large enough portion to share between two people. He seemed to enjoy it, too.
I’m glad we didn’t also go elsewhere to eat dinner: the large portions filled us up quite well. They used proper bowls and spoons for dine-in customers, and there were plastic dividers to separate parties at the numerous tables in the back for social distancing. If I lived nearby, I’d probably be here all the time. For the sake of my health, I’m thankful that I don’t!

Pros: large portions, unique sugarcane sheet ice, chewy taro balls
Cons: menu could be more clearly marked
