Decent food, odd place

My meal was nice enough and there were plenty of options but the whole experience was just a bit odd.

The menu is huge, with nothing marked as vegan or vegan option available but a note at the bottom to say most things can probably be vegan. This made ordering a bit hard work as I had to guess what they could do, then the waiter checked with the kitchen, then she came back with a different suggestion. The kitchen clearly were knowledgeable though and let me know the chips would go in the same fryer as meat so offered nachos and onion rings that could be cooked differently. They did have lots of vegan ingredients e.g. Vegan cheese, haggis, chicken pieces, beef burger, chicken burger etc.

The cafe was a fairly chaotic place. Quite crowded, lots of staff but most didn't seem to know what was going on. There was quite a long wait to place our order, for a toastie to be made etc. They also told me when I went to pay, after I had eaten that it was cash only. When I told them I only had Google pay so couldn't go to a cash point they then let me pay by card. It was all quite odd, I think they only admitted it was possible to pay by card when they realised it was that or give us our meal for free.

Pros: Tasty toastie , Lots of options

Cons: Nothing vegan on the menu, Chaotic , Don't want you to let you pay by card

Nice food but not the best experience

There’s no vegan options on the menu, instead it says they can do versions of most of the non vegan things. Which made ordering a bit strange as you didn’t know exactly what you can have and what exactly the vegan version will be. The food arrived quite quickly and was pretty nice though my burger was quite dry- I guess there was no vegan version of the sauce supposed to be on it.

The space itself felt chaotic. There was a lot of staff who mostly seemed a bit confused about what they were doing. My highlight was when someone came in and asked if they could take a specific table and the waitress said she had no idea and walked off.

When I went to pay the person on the till said it’s cash only which wasn’t mentioned before so I had to go get cash out. After a bit of trouble with the ATM, it turned out they did have an online way to pay card, apparently they just don’t want to use it and instead caused me hassle.

Cozy snug with scrummy brunch

This wee café is owned and operated by the same folks who run Fork&Mustard just down the road. Same menu, same wonderful atmosphere, but with more seating! I especially love the vegan Aussie breakfast, garlic friend mushrooms and crush avocado on thick toast; my kids especially love the homemade vegan cakes. Coffee is delicious and the staff are always friendly. Whenever I find myself doing any shopping on the Falkirk High Street, I absolutely must stop in at 4 Coo Wynd for a wee treat.

Pros: Tasty food, Friendly staff

Cons: The toilets are a long walk up a lot of stairs
