Breakfast burrito 10/10

Everything on the Plantega menu is cooked to perfection and the guys are super friendly. Order on the phone so they don't lose 20% to BigEats 🙂

Vegan options? Heck yes! But...

I am so glad to see vegan bodegas and delis in NYC. It is long overdue. But I am very disappointed to see them carrying brands by No Evil Foods, which has an anti-union past and recently fired their whole production team without warning or severance. They're now working with a beef jerky manufacturer to make their products which isn't vegan! I will keep coming here for vegan goods but I really think they should rethink carrying No Evil Foods.

Pros: vegan!, close to home , delicious

Cons: expensive , anti union brand , store hours

Friendly vegan bodega with a bunch of vegan options

This is a typical, tiny NYC deli/bodega--except that it offers Plantega deli items. Plantega is a company that helps bodegas in NYC offer a bunch of vegan items, all of which come from standard products by companies such as Good Catch, Beyond Burger, Miyokos, etc. When I got to teh 3rd Ave Deli early in the day, I asked if they had a separate grill for their vegan items, and I was told they did not. When the person behind the counter saw me turn a bit green, he assured me that they clean the grills before each grilling, use separate knives for the vegan items, etc. Because it was early in the day, I felt it was safe; if it were later in the day or if they were very busy, I might have been leery about the cross-contamination.

In any event, it is really great that they offer standard deli items in a vegan form. The food here is not that healthy or innovative, but it does hit the spot.

Pros: Very friendly staff, reasonable prices, chance for authentic NYC deli experience

Cons: Not particularly healthy or gourmet, Be on the lookout for cross-contamination

Vegan Chopped Cheese

I got the vegan chopped cheese and it was delicious! The cook was super friendly and cleaned the griddle just for my order. It took a little while but it was 100% worth the wait!
