I went vegan on May 22, 2020, during the pandemic. The penny dropped when 1 million chickens were killed by a farmer by turning up the heat and turning off the air. I cried. The bottom had dropped out of the market and he couldn't sell them. Then it happened with pigs. Farmers shot them in the head one by one. It kept happening during the pandemic as the markets failed for meat and the meat packing plants closed due to Covid outbreaks. It just hit me where meat comes from. I've always supported animal sanctuaries. I give monthly to 10 animal charities. But I've always lived in cities. I met a pig once at the zoo, and a cow once at the San Diego County Fair. They had no connection to the gourmet meals we eat at home or when we travel and enjoy Michelin-starred restaurants, layered flavors, and sauces. Then, they did. I believe animals are sentient beings, intelligent, with souls, with whom we share this planet. Unfortunately, humans do not share well with others. Plant-based eating is a way to acknowledge that we don't need to eat others. It's also a healthy way to live and thrive. You can build muscle and compete athletically. The movie Game Changers helped me get started, and their site on how much protein I need, and which supplements and in what amounts guided me. https://gamechangersmovie.com/resources/ I subscribe to Thistle for nightly dinners that vary every day, and I've discovered fabulous cuisines and cultures I hadn't tried before. They are designed by nutritionists and dietitians, but cooked by chefs, so there are layers of flavor and nuances that are fantastic. They offer breakfasts, lunches, dinner, snacks, and desserts. https://www.thistle.co/referral/GAYEP7PV I hope to use this app when we travel, so I don't starve!!
