I chose to be vegan as an ethical stance against our appalling treatment of animals. That said the environmental impact of animal agriculture and fishing cannot be overstated. The recent pandemic also highlights how a change in approach towards animals will benefit humanity plus issues like antibiotic resistance and the appalling working conditions in factory farms, slaughterhouses and meat processing plants all signify that as a species we need to change course.
