Western Europe's largest bear sanctuary Bears that have lived in captivity cannot be reintroduced to the wild - they are too dependent on humans and would not survive in the wild. The BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz, a FOUR PAWS animal welfare project, is home to brown bears rescued from zoos, circuses and private homes. The rescued brown bears live in large forest enclosures and can step by step revert to their animal instincts. They can roam around their enclosure, withdraw to be in seclusion, excavate caverns and hollows, bathe in the pond or also rediscover their natural winter state of semi-hibernation. Guests can enjoy tasty vegetarian and vegan food at the organic bistro located at the sanctuary. It is open every day and offers a changing menu with for example soups, salads, quiche or local specialties depending on the season. Most of the vegetarian food can also be veganised, the bistro offers a selection of vegan ice cream and sometimes vegan cake.
