I want to be part of the ground-up revision to our agriculture and relationship to the planet. I’m concerned about the survival of the younger and future generations. Just gone Whole Food Plant-Based…I’ve been researching and educating myself on how to have a complete diet, get enough calories, and learn what supplements I need to take. And I’ve been supporting the local farmers market for many years now. I found John and Ocean’s FoodRevolution Food Summit to be a great resource, as well are several science-based MDs, such as Dr. Neal Barnard. On a personal level, I’m motivated for nutritional reasons (need to lower cholesterol and glucose levels unless I want to get into health problems). I thought I was eating a healthy diet with tons of veggies, beans, etc. but I hadn’t eliminated animal products and was quite liberal with olive oil. Right now I have to eat 4 meals a day to get enough calories and stay at a healthy BMI. Really upping my fiber and bean/legume intake at every meal. Lots of whole fruit, too, in addition to my greens. Learning to eat more at every meal and lots of variety. On a global level, once I learned that the most powerful thing we can do to mitigate man-made climate chaos is to change our agriculture, I’ve weaned myself off animal products in favor of WFPB nutrition. I think the biggest challenge of the younger generations is for people 40+ to actually care about you and your future survival and ideally ability to flourish when the old systems fall apart and climatic multiplier effects hit from every direction. I believe climate chaos will hit a lot harder and faster than most people are anticipating. I would like to connect with others to support a viable path forward with concerns for food security perhaps via Community Supported Agriculture. Perhaps by then people in cities could support themselves with vertical gardens and lab produced or printed food. But I believe others will reorganize in small, self-supporting regionally based farming communities at least until new systems can evolve. All around me I see people caught up in our own small bubbles thinking “it won’t happen in my lifetime.”
