Sorry, but a chewy crust doesn't necessarily have anything to do with "American style". In Italy there are countless styles of pizza. They claim to do neapolitan pizza, which has a chewier crust and not that much topping (If any, except good tomato sauce and cheese). And that, they nailed. The price is probably also caused by the much larger amount of work that goes into making a neapolitan style pizza dough... Not to say that you're not allowed to not like it, of course...
