The problem here, and with a large proportion of Indian cuisine and culture, is that clarified butter (dairy ghee) is not considered “dairy”. You can straight up ask them if there is dairy (I.e. milk, butter, yogurt) in a dish and they will say no. Then you will find there is ghee. Yesterday at Nayopi is this what happened to us. Also, a straight question “is this sauce yogurt?” Was asked and the answer was “no sir, this is a mint sauce”. Then with a more direct question “is there yogurt IN this sauce” was answered “oh yes sir.” What’s upsetting is this is meant to be the only (?) vegan restaurant on the island and these simple concepts are not understood. I could live with the bizarre location and decor, if they could understand that just labelling food vegan does not make it vegan…
