Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and our apologies for any miscommunication that you might have had with our team. We absolutely agree with you on the sweetness of the tofu skin and we’ve often discussed this in our kitchen team meeting—this is definitely a southern local preference-broken rice leans sweet/savory—and some people would even say our sauce is not sweet enough. We’ll try to do a better job explaining this flavor preference to foreign guests. While Cơm Tấm is our #1 best seller, we would actually recommend Phở as this dish would have more of that savory, not sweet flavor. As for the papaya salad, we have two version, a Vietnamese version with mushroom jerky and a plain Thai version. The Vietnamese version is also a southern dish, leans towards a slightly sweeter tamarind taste, whereas the Thai version might have been more savory, more mashed. With regards to our staff, most are still not able to communicate well in English, and that limited capability might have resulted in a limited explanation. Had we known, we would have definitely offered for you to try something else instead—the offer still stands of course, should you are still able to stop by. In any case, we’re glad that you brought this up because while local guests rave about our Broken Rice, we should still explain the flavors a bit better for our foreign guests on our menu. So thank you for sharing this valuable perspective with us. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Sincerely, Team Joi
