While there are always great gifts out there for Father’s Day, let’s be honest, nothing says Thank you for being a great Dad like a good, loving, home cooked meal! And since it’s finally summer, we suggest taking the party outside so everyone can enjoy some sunshine while cooking up some of our top picks for delicious vegan bbq recipes on the grill. Throw in some yummy side dishes along with backyard games like Jenga or cornhole and you can bet Dad will have a great day!
Sweet and Spicy Vegan BBQ Tofu
Okay first off, you can’t have a vegan bbq event without skewers! And these tofu skewers will not disappoint! The tofu is dry-rubbed and baked to create a crispy crust, then coated in a delicious BBQ sauce, and thrown on the grill for that delicious char that just tastes like summer! Serve this with some of our side dishes (below) and you’ll have the most instagrammable meal out there!
Grilled Pesto Sliders
Who doesn’t love sliders? These quick and flavorful sliders are made with tofu marinated in pesto and are the perfect snack to pile high on a plate for guests to grab while chatting over the picnic table. Try them with super firm tofu which comes vacuum packed, therefore eliminating all that extra time spent draining (because we have guests coming and too much to do). Just cut, marinate and grill!
Grilled Vegan Cheese
Nope, not the sandwich, just straight up cheese that has been warmed on the grill. If you haven’t tried this before, you and your guests are in for a treat. I recommend Violife’s new Mediterranean Style blocks that are already cut and ready to throw on the grill. These blocks are the vegan answer to halloumi and will get slightly crispy on the outside and a delicious soft cheesy bite on the inside that is firm enough to hold its shape on its own. Alternatively, take your pick from any of these vegan cheese brands!
Serve with warmed crunchy bread or cut into smaller bites and add toothpicks for finger food! Send me your thank-you messages later 😉
Veggie Kababs with Marinated Soy Curls
We hear it all the time – can a vegan grill? Yes! Yes we can! And while there are so many great vegan bbq ideas out there, you can’t underestimate the power of crunchy vegetables that are marinated with just a few ingredients and then brought to life on the grill. And with all of these lively colors it makes a festive addition to the table!
Grilled Mushroom Burgers
It seems like every restaurant out there has a mushroom dish for vegans but it’s not so often you get to have them grilled AND covered in a cream tarragon cashew sauce while sandwiched between bread and crispy veggies. Once your guests see you throwing some tarragon on the grill to impart the smoky flavor that makes this sandwich a dream, you will have Top Chef status!
Burgers Right From the Freezer (hey that’s okay!)
If you don’t have the time (or the desire) to create your own burgers don’t forget that many grocery stores today carry alternative meat patties like OmniFoods and Beyond Burger, and Impossible Burgers, all of which grill up great! Elevate your burgers with a jalapeno taco guac twist or a sun dried tomato aioli and NO ONE will be asking where you get your protein from!
Vegan Caesar Salad
Salads are a must-have when hanging outdoors but be sure to upgrade from your usual go-to recipes to make Father’s Day extra special. I highly recommend this Ceasar recipe, it blew my mind when I tried it! The creamy dressing is next level and it’s topped with crunchy chickpeas that compliment the flavors perfectly. It’s a great companion to any of the above dishes.
Vegan Grilled Mexican Street Corn
Grilled corn on the cob is great but if you want to blow people’s minds I must insist you make this recipe! The corn is slathered with a mix of mayo and sour cream, zesty citrus, spicy chili powder, oh I could just go on but you get it…Leave the husks on for extra chef cred!
Vegan S’mores
DO NOT get rid of those skewers after dinner! Nothing rounds out a day of outdoor vegan grilling like gooey chocolatey s’mores! There’s just something so warm and sweet about toasting marshmallows, whether you do it over a campfire or over the grill. The recipe is pretty simple, no need to mess with a good thing here! Vegan marshmallows and rich dark chocolate smashed between crackers is just the ultimate. Dad, and everyone else, will thank you for it!!
We’re so lucky to live in a time when not only are the vegan bbq options limitless but our access to delicious recipes is easier than ever. These recipes are sure to be a hit for your Father’s Day celebration or even just a warm sunny Sunday afternoon. After all, you don’t need a holiday to treat yourself, you just need a grill!
