Vegan burgers are growing in popularity, and the Singapore-based fast food chain that started the movement in 2010 just landed in San Francisco. Veganburg’s newest and first American location opened in December of 2015, and serves American fast-food favorites without any meat, dairy, or animal by-products.
Veganburg seems to have something for everyone. Aside from the array of creative vegan burgers, french fries, soft serve ice cream, and delicious vegan sides, guests can also make healthy edits like trading fries for broccoli or getting a vegan paleo burger wrapped in lettuce instead of bread.
The Mustang Relish was a crispy vegan patty with avocado, pickles, onions, and some incredibly convincing meatless bacon. It’s not often that I question a food’s vegan-ness, but the texture and flavor of the bacon were so realistic that I almost thought I was in the wrong place (I was later assured it was definitely vegan!).
The ambiance of Veganburg encourages folks to stick around. The high ceilings and artistic details make it a perfect hybrid between a fast food joint and a sit-down restaurant. In fact, I didn’t see anyone take anything to go.
Veganburg is also popular among omnivores looking for cleaner alternatives to their favorite foods. A majority of their guests are actually meat-eaters and the airy ambiance, delicious burgers, and great staff make it easy to see why vegans and non-vegans alike would love eating there.
If you’re ever in San Francisco, Veganburg is a must. It’s a great spot for a hangout with fellow vegans but an even better place to bring skeptical omnivores who think vegans survive on twigs and berries.
