Mom’s rule. They make everything possible. Why not treat the most important woman in your life with a special dinner at what I personally consider to be the top vegetarian and vegan restaurants across the world to visit for Mother’s Day.
Cafe Gratitude Los Angeles
639 N Larchmont Blvd (at Melrose Ave)
Los Angeles California 90004
323-580-6383
Not only does the name say “I love and appreciate you” to mom, Cafe Gratitude has some of the most beautiful, tasty, organic vegan food I’ve ever had. The new location in Los Angeles blows San Fran’s locale out of the water with wall to wall windows and excellent, friendly service. HappyCow reader favorites are I Am Elated (raw enchiladas served with a creamy chipotle coleslaw), I Am Fortified (roasted veggie bowl with kale and quinoa), and I Am Luscious (date/fig/cacao/hazelnut milk smoothie).
Cafe Flora
2901 E Madison St (at Madison Valley area)
Seattle Washington 98112
206-325-9100
I asked my Twitter and Facebook friends where they would take their mom on Mother’s Day and many people agreed that Cafe Flora was a great spot. It’s friendly, bright, has a charming garden you can sit around and the menu is to live for using organic and local produce as much as possible. And they happen to have a special Mother’s Day brunch that looks mouth-watering!
The Chicago Diner
3411 N Halsted
Chicago Illinois 60657
773-935-6696
The Chicago Diner is an institution in vegetarian dining since 1983. It is one of the highest reviewed restaurant on all of HappyCow and has one 18 Best Of awards. This is the kind of place my mom would love! Comfort food to the max including reviewer favorites Philly Cheesesteak, California Reuben with Sweet Potato Fries, Peanut Butter Chocolate Shake, and the brunch menu looks incredible.
Pure Food and Wine
54 Irving Place (at 17th & 18th St, Midtown, Manhattan)
New York City New York 10003
212-477-1010
The ultimate in vegan fine dining happens at Pure Food and Wine. From the atmosphere, to the place settings, the service, and the elegant food; no detail is left untouched. Serving mostly raw gourmet dishes this may be a new experience for both you and mom, so live it up (but expect to pay for it with your pocketbook)!
Real Food Daily
Locations in West Hollywood and Santa Monica, California
Another popular spot with readers is the organic vegan/macrobiotic cafe in Los Angeles, Real Food Daily. Ann Gentry, the owner, is a advocate for health and has a new book coming out, Vegan Family Meals. They serve Mother’s Day brunch and it looks delicious!
Il Margutta RistorArte
Via Margutta 118 (at near Piazza di Spagna, Piazza del Popolo, and Spanish Steps)
Rome
06-32650577
We take a trip to Italia for a gourmet 4 course dinner at one of the highest rated vegetarian restaurants in Rome. It’s been around since 1979, so it must be pretty awesome. They use 70% or more organic produce, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, and make their pasta in house (but might all be egg pasta so check if you are vegan). It’s on the pricier side but mom is worth it!
Khun Churn
Nimmanhemin Soi 17
Chiang Mai 50200
081-881-3032
If I could take my mom anywhere in the world it would be to my favorite vegan-friendly city Chiang Mai, Thailand. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet at Khun Churn is where it’s at, boasting over 12 entree dishes to choose from, a huge salad bar, 2-4 soups, dessert, and fancy drinks like roselle tea all for under $4 (98 baht). Plus you get to sit in a relaxing garden area, breathe fresh air, and have a peaceful meal away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.
