There’s nothing like saying “I love you Dad” like taking your pops to a delicious, yet healthy vegetarian restaurant where you know he will be satisfied without the heart-clogging animal foods that he might usually eat. These top 6 places to take dad on Father’s Day feature restaurants that will fit the needs of any dad around.
1. Gracias Madre
2211 Mission St (at 18th St, in Mission District)
San Francisco California 94110
415-824-4652
You can’t go wrong with 100% vegan, organic, seasonal Mexican food for dad! How many places can you find vegan empanadas and chile rellenos?? Mexican food is known for his fat-laden cheese and heart-clogging lard, so Gracias Madre is the healthy answer to Mexican. Omnivores and vegheads will both fall in love with the food here.
2. Green – New Vegetarian Restaurant
2240 N Scottsdale Rd Ste 8 (at McKellipps)
Tempe Arizona 85281
480-941-9003
What stands out to me about Green’s menu is the rockin’ bowls. Bowls are quite the trend these days at vegetarian restaurants. Dad will be happy to get his hands on a healthy, hearty bowl like the Drunken Mushroom Chicken, the Coconut Curry bowl, or for something a little bit spicier the Diablo Red bowl with spicy chili.
3. Native Foods
9343 Culver Blvd (at Venice Blvd)
Culver City California 90232
310-559-3601
Native Foods has been bringing delicious vegan food to Southern California since 1994. Chef Tanya Petrovna is known for her creative cuisine, making vegan versions of classics like the Reuben, buffalo wings, meatball sub, “fish” tacos, burgers and pizzas. This would be the place I take my dad because I know he would have plenty of choices to choose from!
4. Tasty Harmony
130 S Mason St (at Mountain)
Fort Collins Colorado 80524
970-689-3234
This place not only has good vibes and mouth-watering food, they have free live music on Thursdays, so maybe take Dad then! Looking over the menu it may be hard to choose between the Jackfruit Tacos, the Kentucky Fried Freedom plate which has battered mock chicken with mashed potatoes and garlicky greens, or the French Philly. Better start with the nachos smothered in cashew cheese sauce picture above. Dad is going to be a happy camper at Taste Harmony!
5. The Foundation Lounge
2301 Main St (at 7th Ave and Kingsway)
Vancouver British Columbia
604-708-0881
If your dad likes the dive bar kind of feel and your want to eat some tasty, cheap vegan food and grab a beer, head to Foundation Lounge in Vancouver. Not totally vegan, but plenty of tasty options like the Spicy Peanut Pasta, the Satay Salad, vegan chocolate fondue (OMG!) and for those who are just vegetarian, the nachos are off the hook.
6. The Cinnamon Snail
River St (at 1st)
Hoboken New Jersey 07030
201-675-3755
The place to take your dad for breakfast or brunch on Sunday morning (9am-11am) is this adorable vegan food truck known for it’s tasty food. It’s highly rated on HappyCow and receives rave reviews from both vegetarians and omnivores. Reviewer favorites are the donuts (like maple-glazed toasted coconut), savory pastries (like lentils and potato), and blue corn pancakes with pine nut butter. Looking at the menu, I don’t think you’ll go wrong with any choice!
