The responses were so deeply touching and inspiring that we had to share them. Whether you’re participating in Veganuary, or are already somewhere else along your journey, we hope these community sentiments resonate with you. Here’s what they had to say! Going vegan has changed my life because… “My diet is finally in line with my values, I feel free as a result! I’ve also become much more conscious about what I’m putting in my body. Also how we exploit animals in all sorts of industries that I wouldn’t expect and it’s disgusting. Veganism is one of the best things I’ve ever done and there’s no looking back for me.” “Sleep is incredible, no food coma in the afternoon (or ever), I look younger, skin tighter, haven’t had a flu or a cold in years (except c-19), but most importantly: I no longer contribute to the ecological catastrophe of the meat and dairy industries as well as the giant suffering they inflict!” “Now I’m at peace with my conscience and I love to cook.” “There are so many vegan options that I don’t feel like […]

The post Can Going Vegan Change Your Life? It’s time to bust some of these myths with facts! Myth #1: You can’t get enough protein on a vegan diet.Fact: The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. This is entirely possible on a plant-based diet and there are many rich sources of vegan protein. The most popular ones include: tofu, lentils, beans, chickpeas, nuts, seeds, whole grains, spirulina, peanut butter, and soy milk. Even those who require more protein, such as athletes, seniors, and children, can increase their intake by consuming more of these foods. Besides, the largest study of its kind in history showed that the average vegan actually gets 70% more protein than they need, every single day- how’s that for myth busting! Myth #2: Vegan protein sources are not as effective as whey protein for building muscle. Fact: Research shows that increases in muscle mass and strength are associated with protein regardless of the source. This means that the consumption of protein-rich plant foods (listed in the first point […]

The post Top 3 Myths And Facts About Vegan Protein appeared first on HappyCow.

5 Documentaries For Veganuary That’ll Change Your Life

Samyukta Kartik

General

Veganism

veganuary

With the increasing number of films shedding light on topics such as veganism, animal rights, health, and the environment, several well-kept secrets about the animal agriculture industry are becoming exposed. Here is a selection of thought-provoking, informative, and deeply touching documentaries that show us what goes on in the industry and invite us to question our own roles. Grab some popcorn, keep an open mind, take a deep breath, and prepare to watch something for Veganuary that just might change your life! 1. DominionFocuses on: Animal Exploitation / Ethicshttps://www.dominionmovement.com/watch Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, this powerful exposé of the grim reality of animal agriculture captured by drones, hidden and handheld cameras, encourages us to question the morality and validity of mankind’s dominion over the animal kingdom. While the film mainly focuses on how animals are used for food, it also throws a spotlight on other ways animals are exploited and abused by humans, including clothing, entertainment and research. A must-watch, however heart wrenching it might be! India: The Land of Ahimsa is a similar documentary set in the Indian context, exposing the cruel underbelly of animal farming that Indians refuse to see. But for a new vegan, not only are they asked that, but they might also think that too! The best advice I have for new vegans is to keep it simple. And bowls are a simple way to think about food…as in breakfast bowls, lunch bowls and dinner bowls. All of your meal in one container! The premise is always the same, and you can change the ingredients to your liking. The basic ingredients for my bowls are always the same —some veggies, a starch, a protein and a sauce. For example, my lunch bowl the other day was made up of steamed greens, with roasted sweet potatoes and tofu. Over the top I poured a delicious peanut sauce that I made from peanut butter, vegetable broth, liquid aminos, maple syrup, fresh ginger and garlic. While the sweet potatoes and tofu were in the oven, I made the sauce…and lunch was ready in about 20 minutes. Here’s one of my favorite bowls that I make when I’m pinched for time. I call it the Un-Burrito Bowl. It’s basically a burrito in […]

The post Easy Vegan Bowls + Recipe appeared first on HappyCow.

Spice Up Your Vegan Waffles

Cruelty-Free Culture

Cooking

Recipes

breakfast

easy

recipe

Veganism

veganuary

waffles

If you’re a new vegan or are vegan-curious, you may be super excited to learn that vegans can eat waffles!
