Sapiens, A Plant-Based Canteen In The City Of Santiago, Chile

Sapiens is a symbol of evolution–a restaurant born from an inspiring story.

A few years ago, two young, yet passionate Chileans, Nicolas and Piero left their home to embark on an exciting journey across the great lands of Australia. This experience abroad, working to make a living while roaming freely, slowly merged into an awakening and life-changing adventure.

Back in Chile, the two friends feel the urge to change their lifestyle. Those months of cultural challenges and adaptation have changed them in a way that couldn’t have been expected. The people they have encountered on the way, the places they have worked at, the wisdom they have gained, lead them to question their place in the world. Incorporating the values they have cultivated on the road into their Chilean culture is now a duty–a purpose. Their mission is to adopt a more sustainable way of living both for their own health and for the good care of the planet they live in. Veganism is a clear step–but they also fight for more than just a plant-based diet. They want to promote their values and educate their community about the whole picture.

How can one educate another? Lectures and debates sometimes lead to confrontation and opposition but compassion, tolerance and obviously, delicious food only bring positive outcomes.

That is how the project Sapiens was born–from the need to change mentalities and the desire to make the world a better place. Their mission is to deliver wholesome yet natural meals inspired by the ones that they fell in love with in the innovative Australian metropolis. Veganism in Chile is still a vague movement that only a few support. Restaurants like Sapiens are breaking the stereotypes and stimulating the thinking process.

When customers taste their exquisite cuisine and feel energized after a generous fulfilling meal, that’s when the impact takes place. Daniel, the plant-based chef and the third member of the team, proposes a wide variety of healhty and well-balanced preparations of plant-origin only; burritos, pizzas, burgers, buddha bowls, guilty deserts, everything a gourmet can dream of. The only difference is that those recipes combine pleasure, nutrition and respect for the planet and human health. It is the kind of comfort food that truly nourishes your body instead of harming it.

Sapiens opened its doors in 2017 in the trendy and swanky neighborhood of the Barrio Italia. Hidden at the end of a chic artist gallery, the restaurant is both modern and cozy with its many plants, and it’s filled with lounge music. Besides the gastronomic experience, the customers are invited to enjoy a familial environment where they can truly relax, socialize, or appreciate a sunny day sitting at a cute little terrace.

The motivation of the founders to have a positive impact on the world affects all their decisions. With that mission in mind, they prioritize the relationship with their clients. This goal is followed with simplicity, kindness and a palpable joy! Raising awareness through a conscious nourishment with the best possible vibes–this is Sapiens’ success.
