Restaurant Highlight: Kynd in Bali, Indonesia

I love Bali! Before visiting, I’d seen many pictures and heard a lot of stories, but there’s nothing quite like experiencing Bali for yourself. Bali has so much to offer, it’s difficult to choose where to begin explaining my love for the island. Our first stop was Seminyak, an area known for its liveliness, great shopping, parties, and amazing vegan food finds! What also makes it so great is that if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the area, there are other locations nearby that are quiet, serene, and amazingly breathtaking (like Geger Beach). Prior to visiting Bali, I was in Thailand and I thought they had the most amazing beaches; I’m now being forced to reconsider.

One of my first stops in Seminyak was Kynd, a cute little vegan café that seems to be most popular for their customized smoothie bowls.

Before visiting, I can’t tell you how many times I saw their bowls on social media! It appears that you can request them to spell out anything you’d like (at no additional cost)! I kept it simple and just went with my name. Besides, it’s not often that I find souvenirs or trinkets with my name on it, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to seize the moment!

We arrived at Kynd on a Friday morning around 11am. I had plans of getting up earlier to try to beat the crowds, but my body had other plans, so I slept in a bit longer than I intended to. After getting out of the cab, we noticed that people were sitting outside, seemingly waiting to be seated. Immediately I began to wonder how long the wait was. I was starving and knew that I could only hold out but for so long before my stomach started yelling at me! We walked inside where we were greeted by a host who was surprisingly able to seat us right away. We sat at a small bar, right behind the door, looking out toward the street. As happy as I was to be seated, I was beginning to feel a little claustrophobic, as the bar area we were seated at was small, but made smaller every time the door opened. As soon as I noticed that there was a table available on the outdoor patio, I immediately ran over to the host and asked to be moved. She obliged, and we quickly claimed our new seats. SCORE!

I was much more comfortable on the patio. The weather was pleasant, it offered us more personal space and I got to sit in front of the infamous pink wall painted with green tropical palm leaves. Not long after sitting down, our food arrived. My husband and I ordered the Berry Tropical smoothie bowl (dragon fruit blended with Banana, mixed berries, coconut water topped with house made granola, strawberries and bananas), the Aspey gourmet toast (smashed avocado, coconut feta, popped capers, tomato, basil and lemon), and Paradise Pancakes (vanilla infused pancakes with coconut ice cream, maple syrup, berry compote, candied hazelnuts, strawberry cream, and banana). Sounds delicious, right?

Needless to say, everything was amazing. The pancakes, though unique in appearance, did not lack in taste. They were perfectly soft and all of the toppings meshed well together. The smoothie bowl was fresh and carefully decorated. I love that they take their time putting each bowl together for their customers, offering the same experience to everyone. The only issue with this was it was so pretty, I didn’t even want to eat it! It’s every bit as cute in person as they are on the internet! I saved the smoothie bowl for last. The Aspey toast was super tasty. Wonderfully satisfying, just as a savory toast should be.

Between bites, we noticed that the other patrons around us were just as excited to sit in front of the pink wall as I was. Mini photoshoots galore!

I truly lucked out with a space in front of the wall, but if this is one of your reasons for wanting to visit Kynd, I’d be sure to arrive early to ensure the perfect seat. But also be mindful of the other customers that are waiting to eat as well. When I visited, there was a sign that mentioned their plans to move (next door) to a larger location opening this month (August), but I’d still imagine that they’ll be just as busy. So remember to be mindful of the time you spend posing for the perfect photo and taking a zillion insta-worthy pics of your beautiful food. 🙂 Be Kynd.
