6 of America’s Coziest Vegan Cafes

A plant-based breakfast is a hot commodity sought after by vegans. Not to mention somewhere cute, cozy, with caffeine. Perhaps a quiet atmosphere, a low-key work or study spot, with an ethical approach and friendly baristas… is all of that too much to ask? We don’t think so!

Now that the winter months have settled upon us, let’s bring to light some of the top vegan-friendly cafes in and around the chillier cities in America.

Waffle Frolic – Ithaca, NY

For not being solely vegan, this menu is fun and clearly marked, giving you the option to thoroughly choose your waffle and any topping your heart desires! Want something sweet with your coffee? Grab a (vegan) waffle with (vegan) ice cream. Looking for savory? Snag a Waffle Dog (their version of a corn dog) – totally vegan, served with maple mustard, and only $5.00. Be sure to hit up this cozy location before you frolic off to view some waterfalls in the chilly upstate air (because Ithaca is gorges, after all)!

Seed Cafe – Minneapolis, MN

Are you looking for some of the best coffee in Minneapolis? Perhaps you’re more into the sweeter side of things, such as a Maple Latte or London Fog? You can find it all amidst the nature-focused, calm vibe of Seed Cafe… Along with French Toast or Chickpea Frittata. (And yes, they’re entirely plant-based).

Back to Eden – Portland, OR

Cozy, vegan, and gluten-free… 100%. You’ve got your choice of breakfast, lunch, coffee, alcohol, and desserts.  From nontraditional items like the Biscuit Burger (a Beyond burger served on a buttermilk biscuit with secret sauce) to the more classic cafe items such as coffee cake or cinnamon rolls, it truly is a Garden of Eden.

Beet Box – Denver, CO

You’ll ironically find Beet Box as a hole in the wall with a sign that insists you eat more hole foods (intentional spelling, as their cake donuts – and other decadent desserts – are famous). Everything is vegan, and much of it can be gluten-free, which is hard to believe with such a long list of inventive as well as classic cafe dishes and treats. Settle in among the studious hipsters and dig in to your vegan quiche or panini – and don’t forget to take a treat or two home with you.

Middle Way Cafe – Anchorage, AK

With several clearly-labeled vegan items between the breakfast, lunch, and drink menus, you’re going to have no problem posting up in Middle Way for a day. The breakfast menu boasts vegan pancakes (yay – not just a fruit plate!) and there’s even a kids menu with multiple vegan options. Hot bowls, melts, and house-made burgers will keep you warm in Alaska, the Great Land.

Wayward Vegan Cafe – Seattle, WA

Move over, Denny’s. We’ve talked biscuits, french toast, pancakes, and waffles… but we haven’t talked chicken and waffles – (until now.)  But this menu extends far past breakfast, and into the depths of vegan dreams which include the Mac Attack Crunch Wrap, Fried Mozzarella Wedges, and more. Come for the vegan omelettes and stay for the popcorn chicken.
