Canadian Seal Hunt Protest

An article released in Dec. by The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) today related to the Animal Welfare Aspects of Seal Hunting, reports that “for too long the Canadian Government has deceived the public about this cruel hunt” and goes on to cite specific violations which leads to the inhumane suffering of the death sentenced animal: A prime example of verified infractions includes proof  “hooking and dragging” inured seals and “skinning” them while possibly still alive.

There are countless websites and organizations whose prime mission is to end the annual Canadian Seal Hunt, well outnumbering those that support the kill.  Upcoming March and April are peak Seal hunting months. There is a boycott seafood pledge sponsored by The American Humane Society because a great number of sealers also contribute to the economy though their fishing proceeds.

Now, of course, as vegetarians we forgo the consumption of all animals including sea-creatures. However, high numbers of seafood pledge boycott signatures, demonstrates to the sea industry as well as the Canadian government that takes in close to 3 billion in annual revenue from US seafood import, that consumers refuse to buy from industries that support or benefit from the seal hunting trade that has a connection to end to the seal slaughter, and in the process will circuitously lead to the protection of all animals.

Some other ways to get the message out to those making a huge profit from the seal kill is to contact directly contact them by email, snail mail or by phone.  There are a number of contact links on the Boycott Seafood site: http://www.sealhunt.ca/MainPages/WhatYouCanDokjl.html#Individuals

Another idea is to participate in a vacation boycott by refuse to travel and contribute to the parts of the country where the seal hunt occurs which is in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick as well as informing the government for the reason behind the boycott.

Here are some snail mail addresses to address your vacation boycott plans to:
