Imagine walking around an airport knowing exactly where to go to fuel yourself with some plant-based goodness… The time and energy saved can make your layovers a total breeze. If you’re keen to know about the available vegan options at Hong Kong International Airport, this list has got you covered!
1. Pret A Manger
Where: Terminal 1, Arrivals (L5, Non-restricted Area)
Pret is quickly rising in popularity as one of those airport spots that vegans can count on! With a range of fresh, handmade foods, organic teas, (vegan) coffees, high-protein and veggie sandwiches and wraps, coconut milk drinks, overnight oats, puddings, vegan pots, etc. the options are quite impressive.
2. Root98 Grab ‘n’ Go
Where: Terminal 1, Arrivals Hall B (L5)
Offering a range of fresh cold-pressed juices as well as the popular plant-based Omnipork Meatball Sandwich (In collaboration with Green Common), you’re sure to find at least a couple of decent vegan options here.
3. Bless
Where: Terminal 1, Near Gate 28, Departures Level (L6)
Another spot for cold-pressed juices that promise to be free from preservatives, added sugar or artificial colouring.
4. Beef & Liberty
Where: After Departures (L7, South)
Impossible Burger alert! 🙂 You can even get it with vegan cheese on request. Just know that the buns are not vegan by default so this needs to be specifically requested. There’s also a Falafel Burger here that can be made vegan!
5. PizzaExpress
Where: After Departures (L7, North)
You can get a cheeseless pizza here on request. Vegan cheese isn’t yet available here. HOWEVER, in the PizzaExpress at Sai Ying Pun, they’ve introduced three fully vegan pizzas with vegan cheese (Daiya) so maybe this location will catch up soon too—fingers crossed!
6. Joe & the Juice
Where: Terminal 1 (L6)
If you’re looking to quench your thirst, go here to find a number of vegan smoothies, coffees, and shakes. Pro: dairy milk coffees can be switched up to almond milk at absolutely no extra charge!
7. Plaza Premium Lounge
Where: Terminal 1, near gates 1, 35, and 60 (all departures)
This place has been recommended by Vegan Food Quest – they even shoutout HappyCow and Green Monday in their 2019 vegan guide to Hong Kong here!
The Plaza Premium Lounge has a vegetarian menu that offers a Beyond Burger (again, the bun may need to be swapped for another vegan bread), Mediterranean Style OmniPork Meatballs, Thai curry, etc.
Tip: Order your Beyond Meat Burger or Mediterranean Style OmniPork Meatballs online as an add-on to your lounge access and get a 10% discount (regular price is USD 11.10)
8. Starbucks
Where: Terminal 1, Front of Check-in Aisle A, Departures (L7). ALSO in the Restricted Area, Near Gate 44, Departures Level (L6)
Starbucks Hong Kong has just announced the launch of its new plant-based menu so you can expect to see it reaching the airport locations very soon, if it hasn’t already!
Keep your eyes open for the three new coffees made with plant-based milks—an Almond Milk Nutty Latte, Oat Milk Cocoa Macchiato and Soymilk Sesame Latte, all available hot, iced or in the Starbucks Frappuccino classic version all across Hong Kong. The menu will also feature food options using Impossible Foods’ plant-based meats. Now that’s quite a milestone for veganism in Hong Kong!
We hope that was helpful! To find more veg*n options near the airport, in the Outlying Islands, browse here.
