A museum to explore the human-animal bond & the animal protection movement.

Our History Has a Home from Nat. Museum of Animals & Society on Vimeo.

Like you, we want a kinder, more compassionate world that celebrates animals as sentient beings who are deserving of our attention, understanding, and respect. We believe that the human animal bond is a rich, shared experience and that we have the capacity and responsibility to honor the inherent value of the animals with whom we share the planet.

As a museum, we are the first of our kind. We exist to preserve, interpret and share our inspiring legacy of animal protection, to nurture current and future generations’ overall awareness about animals in society and to empower change.

In 2013, after 4 years of having a strong online presence, we opened our first gallery space in Hollywood. In that time, we held six diverse and thoughtful exhibitions and hosted innovative programs and events.

Our goal in 2015 is to move to a much larger space in a more prestigious location, close to Los Angeles’ museum row. We will continue presenting animal protection issues through world-class curating in a palatable, viewer-friendly manner. The new space will allow us to house permanent, as well as rotating exhibits and appeal to a broader group of visitors. We will also host educational and motivational film screenings, lectures, classes, and events.

The permanent exhibit on our legacy of animal protection will address animal issues, such as:

  • Pet over-population: The need for global spay and neuter efforts and the contribution of Puppy Mills to this crisis

  • Wildlife concerns and conservation

  • Factory farming and alternative food sources

  • Animals in entertainment – circuses, Sea World, zoos

  • Animals in fashion – furs, skins, ivory

  • Cosmetic testing and alternative testing methods and products

  • The history and progress of the animal protection movement

We have a deeply committed, fully engaged and proactive board that has received several generous commitments to launch our capital campaign. We have secured a $50,000 matching donation from The Lavinthal Family Trust and we are seeking donations to meet this match, dollar for dollar.

Please donate. Please share. Help us make a difference. Help us tell their stories and ours.

And be sure to note that images of the “perks” can be seen under the ‘Gallery’ Tab at the top of this page.
