Restaurant Review: Ramen Hood

Nestled inside the bustling Grand Central Market of Downtown L.A. you’ll find Ramen Hood serving 100% vegan food. Created by Top Chef Season 2 winner Ilan Hall, the new hottest food in town is vegan ramen.

This plant-based, meat-free noodle soup is super rich in flavor. I was told the creamy broth is made with sunflower seeds, which explains the pleasant nutty flavor. The al dente ramen noodles have perfect consistency and the chunks of king oyster mushroom add a very satisfying texture. There is, surprisingly, a vegan egg option that is made of soy, nutritional yeast and black salt. While it doesn’t taste like real egg, it does go well with this hearty bowl of ramen.

Ramen Hood is truly creative with making food in traditional and non-traditional way. Vegans and non-vegans alike would delight in its fun, healthy food.

This tasty ramen has everyone happily slurping away. My 4 years old son gives it all thumbs up!

Having just started out the business already is booming. The menu currently offers two types of vegan ramen (spicy and non-spicy), and a few side dishes. There are plans to expand the menu. So stay tuned!
