My dogs love sweet potato chews. These chews are a cinch to make, and more economical and healthier than a store bought brand. You have control over what goes into the recipe, what doesn’t go into the recipe, and the quality of the ingredients. Try and make these on a day when you will be home for a few hours in the morning, or in the evening a few hours before going to bed…since they need additional drying time in the oven after you shut it off. No dehydrator needed!
Ingredients:
1 organic sweet potato (extra large)
Nutritional yeast (for sprinkling)
Directions:
-Preheat oven to 225 degrees.
-Lightly oil a baking sheet.
-Cut sweet potato into approximately one third to one half inch slices. If the slices are really long, you may want to cut those in half. Lay flat on baking sheet. Sprinkle pieces with nutritional yeast, and rub into slices with your fingers. Bake for approximately 3 ½ to 4 hours. Shut off oven. Allow pieces to dry on baking pan (inside of oven) overnight or for approximately 8 hours. If slices are not as crunchy as desired after drying time, you can return to oven (at 225 degree temperature) and check after 30 minutes.
Your pups will love them!
Makes approximately twenty four treats.

August 26, 2014 at 9:09 amHi Karen: One of my girls has a sensitive stomach, and she has no problems with these Sweet Potato Cheweez. Each treat is just a slice of sweet potato. Maybe just go slow with your pups and give them one a day, to see how they tolerate them.
