Happy Pride month, Happy Cowmunity!
We’re here to keep you in the know on LGBTQIA+ Owned Vegan Restaurants and Cafes around the globe! Supporting and visiting these restaurants is a great way to be an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Here are 7 places for you to check out this Pride Month and beyond:
1. La Oveja Negra
Madrid, Spain
Formerly known as Bar Kunin, this ‘taberna vegana’ La Oveja Negra is a vegan queer bar with an open, anarchist atmosphere. Here they serve breakfast until 1pm, followed by all-day tapas and casual fare. Definitely try their cheesy nachos, wraps with fries, breaded seitan, croquettas, chorizo, burgers, cakes, and changing specials!
2. La Bartola
Toronto, Canada
What’s not to love about vegan Mexican cuisine! The food in La Bartola pays homage to the cooks in Mexico, with the influence of Oaxaca and Mexico City. From tacos with braised hibiscus flowers, to green ceviche tostadas, broccoli tamal, sangria, and cocktails, their menu is coloured with creativity and sophistication!
3. LesbiVeggies
New Jersey, USA
What started as a mobile meal prepping company has now evolved into a brick-and-mortar location, where chef Brennah Lamberts shares her love for food. LesbiVeggies is now a full-service plant-based, gluten-free restaurant and caterer! Black representation floods the space through art, music, and culture.
4. The Queer Emporium
Cardiff, Wales
The Queer Emporium is a shop and café that houses 15+ LGBTQIA+ businesses and has events on the weekends. All the cakes, coffee, and other refreshments are locally sourced, plant-based and made by LGBTQIA+ folks. This is a home and safe space for minority genders, where events and workshops are regularly hosted for the community.
5. Balance Bowl
Gzira, Malta
Balance Bowl offers a plant-based dining experience and really unique vibes. All menu items are handmade from scratch, including sauces. Make sure to try out their selection of gluten-free baked and raw desserts, and enjoy the ambience as they have a beautiful space to relax, read and study.
6. Sea Salt & Cinnamon
Indiana, USA
This vegan gem in Indiana is a female-led, LGBTQIA+ owned vegan cafe and caterer! Here they make custom cakes (all vegan!) as well as pies, salads, burritos, sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, cookies, banana bread, and much more.
7. Ushi’s Coffee Corner
Glasgow, Scotland
Paperless, BYOB, and queer-run, Ushi’s Coffee Corner is the perfect hole-in-the-wall with great community vibes. Serving up lunch dishes like sandwiches, burgers, and rice bowls, as well as filter coffee & vegan donuts, this spot is a go-to for anyone looking to have a relaxed time in a cosy space.
