These farm sanctuaries around the world rescue animals that are victims of exploitation and speciesism. As the world gradually transitions into veganism, these organizations play their part in the movement by providing rescued animals with a happily-ever-after that they SO deserve, and at the same time set an example for good in the world.
We applaud the incredible teams of people who devote so much of their time, energy, and heart to the welfare of the vulnerable.
Read about ten amazing farm sanctuaries that we have highlighted below.
1. Ashers Farm Sanctuary
Pretoria, South Africa
This animal farm sanctuary is open to the public on the weekends! After a tour of the sanctuary, where you get to meet the most beautiful animals – cows, pigs, goats, horses, sheep, donkeys, chickens, bunnies (truly a dream come true!), you can sit down to a delicious lunch at the fully vegan restaurant that serves sandwiches, burgers and desserts. This place even has an in-house shop selling vegan merch!
2. The Hut at Tribe Animals Sanctuary
Scotland, UK
The Hut is a B&B and vegan animal sanctuary where you get to hang out with the 150 rescue animals! Located near beautiful walking trails in nature (like Clyde Walkway!) in a semi-rural area, this place is perfect for an uplifting getaway.
3. Ippoasi Animal Sanctuary
Pisa, Italy
An animal sanctuary in Pisa? You heard that right! If you’re in (or travelling to) Italy, make this one of your stops. Ippoasi is a lovely place that promotes animal rights and a vegan lifestyle. They offer guided tours to the public without any fee, but appreciate donations.
4. Woodstock Animal Sanctuary
New York, USA
This sanctuary is home to rescued farm animals and offers tours to visitors on weekends. Go with kids and bond with the cute pigs, goats, and hens!
The Gray Barn is a vegan boutique inn situated in the same premises, so if you’re looking to combine a farm sanctuary visit with a little getaway, this place is perfect! A beautiful spot to sit and goat-watch the sanctuary’s rescued goats as they graze their pasture. 🙂 A private tour of the sanctuary is included with your stay.
5. Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary
California, USA
On a 40-acre ranch between LA and San Francisco, this sanctuary gives refuge to mistreated farm animals from across California. Founded by activist Zoe Rosenberg when she was only 11 years old, this place has evolved to become one of the largest sanctuaries on the West Coast. With a full time veterinarian and a skilled animal care team, Happy Hen is one of the few sanctuaries in the US that accepts animals in need of urgent care and long-term rehabilitation. Book your visit to this beautiful place here.
6. Sadhana Forest
Auroville, India
This volunteer-run, vegan reforestation community located along the coasts of Tamil Nadu, India, is also home to a sanctuary for rescued cows, who are some of the best ambassadors for the environment and a plant-based lifestyle! When volunteers and visitors interact with them and learn how gentle and social these animals are, they often change how they see farmed animals.

7. Friend Farm Animal Sanctuary
Tonbridge, England
Established in 1994, this sanctuary is located across 10 acres in rural Kent and runs on public donations. Their mission is to offer a lifelong, no-kill, free-roaming, safe haven to unwanted, neglected, and abused non-human animals while educating the public about animal rights, veganism and ecological sustainability.
8. Farm Sanctuary
New York, USA
The sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming and encourage a new awareness and understanding about farm animals. It’s home to rescued cows, pigs, turkeys, and other farm animals. Farm Sanctuary is open to visitors from May through October – make sure to visit their website for the exact tour schedule.
9. Sleepy Pig Farm Animal Sanctuary
Vermont, USA
This beautiful place is a safe haven to many rescued farmed animals; cows, pigs, goats, ducks and chickens. The best part is that you can stay here! Wake up to the sounds of roosters and peak out your window to see the barn and all of the happy animals enjoying their freedom.
10. Animal Aid Unlimited
Udaipur, India
This organization is doing wonders when it comes to rescuing and treating the “un-owned” and unwanted street animals of Udaipur who have grown ill or have been injured. Whether it’s dogs, chickens, cows or fish, they draw no comparison as their love for animals knows no bounds. All animals are welcome here. Through their rescues and heartwarming success stories, the Animal Aid Unlimited team inspires the wider community to protect and defend the lives of all animals.
