Few things are as satisfying as a warm and flavourful bowl of ramen that delivers all of the umami and none of the animal cruelty!
Vegan ramen has always been around but is quickly rising in popularity. The depths of flavour found in traditional Japanese vegetable broths usually come from the goodness of ingredients like shiitake mushrooms, scallions, marinated tofu, torched tomatoes, citrus zest, seaweed (and so much more!). Paired with perfectly textured ramen noodles, it’s nothing but a delight to the senses.
There’s no shortage of restaurants with vegan ramen options, but if you’re someone who prefers to go to a 100% vegan restaurant, we’ve made this list of the best vegan ramen restaurants around the world just for you.
Please note that these rankings are subject to change and not in a definitive order.
1. T’s Tantan – Tokyo JR Station
Tokyo, Japan
A popular branch of T’s Restaurants with their signature dish being tantan ramen. It’s as authentic as it gets!
Cowmunity review by astia00: “The best ramen I had. Can’t explain my love for this rāmen. I’ve spent some time in Japan, but I’ve never had better ramen than there.”
2. Men Impossible
Amsterdam, Netherlands
A fully plant-based ramen kitchen that’s open for lunch and dinner upon reservation only. They also serve vegan wine!
Cowmunity review by Sproutdancing: “The greatest food I’ve ever eaten. Although the prospect of texting for a reservation was daunting it was so worth it. Honestly the best meal I’ve ever had. Staff are exceptional and polite and I dream about the ramen at night.”
3. Vegan Ramen Shop – Finlandzka
Warsaw, Poland
This pop-up turned brick-n-mortar spot specialises in vegan ramen but also offers other Japanese deli food.
Community review by Karo_socialwitch: “The best ramen in Warsaw. Love! This is not an exaggeration. Even meat eaters love VRS food. I tasted almost everything there, and my personal favourites are ofc spicy options, especially the one with vegan meat. Also the one with mushrooms is so so good, mouthwatering umami!”
FYI they also have two other branches—one in Kazimierzowska and one in Jana Pawla.
4. Vegan Ramen Towzen
Kyoto, Japan
A quaint vegan ramen restaurant in Kyoto that’s been around since 2004 but went fully vegan in 2018. It might also be interesting to note that this place doesn’t use any of the five pungent spices.
Cowmunity review by LewisEatsPlants: “Uniquely amazing ramen. This is my second visit and I guarantee it won’t be my last. The memory of how good their ramen was what brought me back to Japan for another holiday.
We ordered the Musashi (a little spicy) and the Tamtam (a little spicy). Both with chlorella. The first thing you notice when they arrive is how thick the broth is. Normally vegan ramen is a little bit on the thin side, but this is one of the thickest broths I’ve seen. The ramen itself is one of the tastiest things I’ve ever had and has a flavour unlike any other ramen.”
5. Vegan AF Ramen
Krakow, Poland
A vegan ramen restaurant that also serves specially handmade vegan eggs alongside.
Community review by RyanLewisMcKindle: “Everything is Awesome. I am so glad that I went to this place. I love Ramen and Dimsum and this place blew my expectations! Pros: Many options, excellent drinks too.”
6. Ramen Hood
Los Angeles, USA
A vegan ramen counter in downtown LA’s Grand Central Market, offering a small fusion menu of noodle dishes, with add-on options including vegan eggs!
Community review by stuartontour: “OMG – this is the best ramen ever. This little ramen counter in the Grand Central Market is like something out of Blade Runner (which was filmed there). It’s owned by a winner of Top Chef (Ilan Hall) and they make a ramen using sunflower seeds and miso. It’s incredible. They have gluten free options. Everything is plant based and super delicious.”
7. TàiLáng ZhōngHuá Lāmiàn
Tainan, Taiwan
太郎中華拉麵 is a little shop that serves vegan ramen. Expect to wait in queue for your turn due to the limited seats available!
Community review by Piwi: “Absolutely top notch Ramen! They have daily changing Ramen types, I had the spicy and Kimchi Miso one. It is in my personal TOP 3 – super delicious! Their interior is also kind of special, all 80’s-90’s style with posters and music. Sometimes you have to wait a little because only 8 seats are available. Pros: extremely delicious ramen, great concept and interior style, super friendly staff.”
8. Beyond Ramen
Berlin, Germany
A small vegan ramen restaurant with a variety of ramen options such as miso, kimchi, and curry ramen, all with different toppings. They also serve starters and desserts!
Cowmunity review by AnotherWaytoD: “Ramen (but the R is silent)! Efficient and delicious ramen place. They’ve got a pretty varied selection of vegan ramen dishes. I tried their Yakitori as a starter 5.5€ (Grilled skewers with unagi sauce and sesame seeds) and Tonkotsu Style Ramen as the main 15€ (kombu vegetable broth, chashu, shiitake, morels, fried egg, pickled cabbage, bean sprouts and leek) with their Tokyo on the Rocks ice-tea 5.5€. Everything was flavoury and served really fast.”
9. I Like Ramen
Gold Coast, Australia
This is the first of Australia’s plant-based, all-vegan ramen restaurants!
Community review by RachaelBlyth: “Tasty AF. Do your self a favour and eat here. I can’t even remember which ramen I ordered but it was so fkn tasty. I force fed myself the last bit of the bowl cos I didn’t want to waste it, the serving sizes were HUGE. 100% would fly to Gold Coast for this.”
10. PQ’s
Tokyo, Japan
A cute vegan restaurant with owners who live an alternative lifestyle! Make sure to note that their special ramen and gyozas are only served on Fridays.
Cowmunity review by CandiceVegan: “Amazing & lovely Japanese small restaurant. This hidden restaurant is my favorite in Tokyo. I’m going as much as I can and each time it’s delicious, friendly and beautiful in the same time. Both the ramen and the curry are amazing. Just go and taste!” 😉
