A Must in Sarajevo

Although my boyfriend and I planned on checking out another (veg-friendly) restaurant in Sarajevo, we liked Veggae so much the first time we came there again, and ordered the same dishes (grilled veggies and vege plate, and tofu salad) because they were so delicious. The portions were really big and after each meal we were full. The prices were affordable (even for us from Croatia).
We had our meals on the terrace in front. It wasn't crowded (which we liked), but for their sake I hope it will be the next time we visit.
The staff consisted of two very nice and friendly girls and we felt welcome there. No reggae though.
All in all, a great place to eat vegan.

Pros: Friendly staff, delicious food, nice and quiet atm

Cons: None

A vegan cafe in Bosnia but don't get too excited

We were lying around having a decadent time on the Croatian coast having gorged on the wonderful food in Zagreb's vegan outlets when someone suggested going to Mostar and Sarajevo on our way back. I was persuaded to do this major detour when I discovered that Sarajevo boasts Veggae a vegan cafe!
Sarajevo is not particularly veggie friendly and Bosnia is pretty much a desert when it comes to veganism so this cafe was an exciting prospect.
It was a disappointment. We walked up the hill - not far- in the hot August sun to find the cafe empty. We were greeted but not with any enthusiasm. Several items we ordered from the menu including those written on the chalk board A sign were unavailable. That included drinks that looked interesting because they were "different" and drinks that were "basic" such as coffee! The coffee was subsequently supplied by the restaurant next door! We did all end up fed but the food was uninspired. The cafe advertises itself as fast food- and it was quick - but one of the veggie steaks I had was completely uncooked and hence inedible. The only plate that our group of four was happy with was the Grilled Vegetables. The service bordered on disinterested or even reluctant which is a shame because I really wanted to write a positive review and support the place more than this. Don't get me wrong when I return to Sarajevo I will go back to Veggae, it's quite possible we just caught them on a bad day and even if they aren't any better its still great to have a vegan cafe to visit in such a popular tourist zone.
One thing that did impress was the bottled fruit juices on offer. They were a brand I have not seen before so probably local and they were really good esp the apple and mint flavour and the plum too.

Good vibe, good food

After you have ordered your food, you can observe with how much dedication to good food this place is run. Everything that can be is prepared freshly for you. I ordered a sample platter containing a bit of everything, which had the chef race around the kitchen quite a bit :). The food is nice, the portions are big and the right vibe is in the air - this place is run for the greater good, not to make lots of money. There is regga music playing in the background, giving the otherwise pretty basic interior a pleasant charm (in case you missed it - the name "veggae" is actually a play on "reggae").

A good place and a real gem in the Balkans, where you normally only get shopska salad and pizza vegetariana (if you are lucky).

Pros: tasty food, good portions, nice vibe

Cons: somewhat off the beaten path

Outstanding!

What a find (thanks Happy Cow). A vegan restaurant in the Balkans (rare to start with) with a varied menu and huge portion sizes. Delicious food, cheap prices, only a 10 min walk or so from the centre of town. Eat here if you get the chance.

Pros: Great food, Convenient, Extensive menu

Delicious and healthy vegan fast food!

About a 10-minute walk up the hill from the city centre is a small 100% vegan fast food place. They have a large selection - soy burgers, hummus, falalfel, burritos (like wraps), pancakes, rice and pasta with veggies, lentils or soy, grilled veggies, salad, and vegan pizza. My husband and I tried the hummus with pita bread and piquante soy burger - both were excellent. We will be back for more, and will update this when we do. Service is great, staff is really friendly. I just hope they get enough business to stay open!

They also do takeout and delivery.

Pros: Tasty 00% vegan food, Good selection, Very inexpensive

Cons: Only about 8-10 seats

Only all-vegan in Sarajevo - simple, fast, cheap!

Veggae is a welcome addition to Sarajevo's restaurant options, given that it is generally very challenging to find vegan food in the city, or most places in the Balkan region. While nothing fancy, this spot is comfortable and friendly, and provides cozy indoor seating for about 8-10 (or great for takeout). Veggae offers a range of menu items at very low prices, and sizable portions (be ready to take home leftovers!). Among three of us, we tried the seitan sandwich, the grilled vegetable sandwich, and the burrito. Sandwiches were served inside pita bread. All items were simple in style but substantial and filling. Not a ton of flavoring or spice to anything, but that's to be expected in the region. The spread used on the sandwiches was like veganaise, but with a slightly different flavor profile--on the sweeter side. The seitan sandwich has sausage round-style seitan slices, tomato, and lettuce, but not much else. The burrito had a mild "white cheeze" sauce with herbs on top, and vegetable filling--in many ways, more like a wrap. At this point in a long, multi-country trip, we were excited for sandwiches more than the risotto or falafel and hummus we had had the whole time already, so didn't try those, but they might also be good or even better choices. All in all, a worthwhile lunch or quick dinner spot and deserving of business and support as it gets started as the only all-vegan restaurant in, likely, the country!
