Decent

I had read about this place on happycow, and here's my New Happy Family Restaurant review.

My friend and I came here for lunch and was surprised to find that this restaurant has been established for already 8+ years.

Although it was a weekday, there were many customers, and that was good to see.

The space is decent. Has many tables in addition to a couple private rooms for large parties of up to 12-15. I didn't like the two aquariums with fish on display, but it's a Chinese/Taiwanese thing for good luck (?).

Service was very prompt and quick. Food was okay. We ordered the soy fish in hot sauce lunch special which was okay, the pork/squid/shrimp/broccoli stir fry lunch special which was tasty but greasy. We also got a sweet & sour soup which was too had too much black pepper and vinegar. Free hot tea was served throughout the meal, so that was a plus.

Overall, this is a decent/good place to come when in the Rosemead area. Food can be on the greasy side a bit (like all of the Chinese vegetarian places around) but plentiful. Service is good, price very cheap, and parking is provided.

Pros: friendly service, large menu, some food tasty

Cons: can be greasy

reliably good

This is usually my default option. I've been to happy family too many times to count, thanks in part to their lunch specials which include starchy goodness with every dish (buns and porridge are always a guilty pleasure). The food has been reliably tasty, although sometimes a bit on the heavy side of sauce. Familiar dishes and mock meats are always good, and I always leave with a content buddha belly. Thumbs up.

Pros: Tasty, Affordable, Fast

Cons: Sometimes a bit too oily/heavy on sauce

dang good yo!

i agree with the first person, the food was really good and the service was excellent. I tried the kung pao nuggets, shredded pork and bean curd and the sticky ribs (i think they were called....not too sure on the last one).....they were all very good. i personally loved the kung pao nuggets. The service was way better than excellent and the atmosphere is really chill.

Pros: good food, good service, very affordable
