Taqueria Vegan (evenings) - Edit
I LOVE Mary’s buffet during the day, but now in the evenings it turns into a Vegan Taco restaurant run by one of Mary’s daughter’s. Delicious seitan Birria, Al Pastor, and Asado, as well as vegetable options. They even have vegan potato-cheese for quesadillas! All amazing home made salsas and all the fixings make this a “must visit” on all my trips to PV.

Pros: Authentic Mexican, 100% vegetarian, great pricing, Vegan options are above par, Buffet in the day, taco “stand” by night
Cons: Closed Sundays

My favorite spot for Vegan food - Edit
Mary is a wonderful woman. They have a great buffet, yet she still made specific dishes to accommodate my daughter, who was super excited about coming back. When we found out the tamales and rice she loved were a special and not served every day she was really disappointed. Mary made us a huge to go container of it while we ate. Food was great! Almost all of it is vegan.

Busy for a reason - Edit
I went here with my husband for breakfast and it was packed with tourists and locals alike. The staff were able to point out all the vegan options, which were at least half of the dishes. Everything was delicious, including the drink selection.

Great buffet and even better tacos - Edit
Yes, there are lots of Mexicans who want vegan food. You just need to go into this small restaurant and you will see them. Mary's is an unassuming spot with a few outside tables and about 10 tables inside. When I wasn't at The Green Place, you could find me at Mary's. Her breakfast buffet at only 120 pesos is so good. I always got the chilaquiles, white beans and hotcakes (pancakes), and fresh fruit (watermelon, pineapple, papaya, etc.) My kids got her tofu scramble and a couple of other Mexican dishes. Wow. I never got her lunch buffet, but did come back at 6 PM when tacos are served. My son and his girlfriend said they are "the best tacos hands-down" and they sampled every one on the menu. I stayed with the mushroom tacos with some black beans and they were just perfect. Mary, herself, doesn't speak much English but I did learn that she many years ago she worked at Planet Vegetariano and helped to develop the menu. I ate there once and saw the Bon Apetit seal of approval...but I'll stick to Mary's any day. Not open on Sundays!

Rejoice! Yet another vegan buffet in Puerto Vallarta! - Edit
We are big fans of Planeta Vegetariana in Centro Puerto Vallarta very close to the Cathedral. So when we saw that there was another vegan restaurant offering a vegan buffet, we put it on our agenda on our next trip to PV. We especially wanted to see how it compared to Planeta Vegetariana. Well, we are happy to report that Restaurante Vegetariano Mary did not disappoint. Mary's buffet menu is not as varied but there was a more than adequate selection and the food was actually a bit more flavorful. El plato principal was albondigas, Mexican meat balls and it was a winner. The salad bar was chock full of goodies. My wife loved the potato and macaroni salads. Unless you are critical of buffets in general, you should leave very full and contented. For this reason, we chose to give the restaurant five stars because of the excellent value received.
Read moreNote: The buffets are for breakfast and lunch. In the evening starting a 6 pm, the restaurant changes to a taqueria and no longer offers the buffet. We plan to go back in the evening and check out the vegan tacos.
Pros: Excellent vegan food, Excellent value for the money, Walking distance to the Malecon
Cons: Buffet food: Not for the pickiest eaters

Pancakes! - Edit
We went for breakfast and only one thing wasn’t vegan- the oatmeal. The women working when we were there were so nice and I knew they understood we couldn’t have egg and cheese, etc. There was pancakes, tofu scramble, beans, fruit, juice, toast, tortillas, and some fake meats.

Great little unassuming place! - Edit
It's a simple restaurant in appearance, but offers very tasty and healthy dishes in a buffet style. I've been here for both breakfast and lunch and both were really good. Breakfast (before 1pm) is 80 pesos and has some juices, cold dishes and a few hot dishes and hot cakes. Lunch (after 1pm) is 110 pesos and has a large selection of cold salads and vegetables, many hot dishes including a different feature everyday and tostades or sopes. Lunch also includes dessert. If you speak Spanish, they are very friendly! If not, you'll find it a little hard to communicate. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Read moreUpdate July 2022: Mary has a Vegan Taqueria in the restaurant from 6pm-10pm. The tacos are AMAZING. So good. The menu also has hamburgers and pizzas. And dessert. I've eaten many times at the Taqueria in the evening and every time I have loved every bite. A must try for vegan tacos.

Love Mary’s for any meal! - Edit
I came right at the end of dinner buffet service (ends at 6pm), and waited for them to set up the taco bar! It was worth the wait!! Everything is delicious here. Especially the salsas at the taco bar, and refried beans in the morning buffet. You can ask them to make you fresh tortillas in the morning, and I highly recommend that!!

Great authentic Mexican food! - Edit
We were there several times for their breakfast menu. It is an all you can eat-style restaurant where you can take as much food as you want. They always have a few hot options, including chilaquiles, beans, tortillas, tofu scramble, some kind of vegan protein, hot cakes and more. On top of that you can make yourself a „muesli“ and they have a small variety of fruits. Also, the breakfast is really cheap, you only pay 100 pesos ~ 4€ for the food including drinks.

Great Home-Cooked Food - Edit
I have been going to the daily buffets and have yet to be disappointed. They’re different every day and they do both breakfast and lunch buffets. I personally prefer the lunch buffet. I am not a big breakfast eater. After 6 they become a vegan taqueria serving up some pretty delicious asada, pastor, birria, and other things and they provide a wide variety of toppings. On top of that, they’re some of the friendliest folks I’ve met down here. I love this place. Pic is from today’s buffet. Buffets are 120 pesos and tacos are 20 pesos.

Vegan Mary - Edit
Staff very attentive. Rosio was very nice. Enjoyed my first vegan cheese in a while. I had the quesadilla. Watched the cheese being grilled. This was the only one of 4 vegan restaurants i went to that day that helped me with my cheese fix.
Read morePlanet Vegetariano and Vegetarian Mary both provided huge bottles of ketchup which I regard as the king of condiments.
So I was very happy with that. I hate when restaurants just give you ketchup sachets that are difficult to open. Vegetarian Mary is most enjoyable when you have the outdoor seating. Two tables. Luckily for me and the person I was bringing on my food tour we got that table.
It's a crap shoot whether the table will be free and the gods were smiling on us.
She ordered their hibiscus drink.
I tried cactus in my quesadilla. Not a big fan of cactus but thought maybe it's healthy.

Veganized Mexican Dishes! - Edit
Unfortunately this spot isn’t vegan but 99% of their dishes are! First time is awkward if you don’t speak Spanish as there isn’t a host or anything but you just walk in, grab a plate and start eating. The staff can point out any non-vegan dishes. I’ve been for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and all are delicious. Each day is a different special. Fresh juice & tortillas!

Cheap home cooked Mexican food - Edit
This is the type of place that when you walk downstairs when you were a child and said mom what’s for dinner, and she said here eat it’s home cooked. Food is pretty much all vegan and staff can help you find what does and doesn’t have cheese in it. Very big portions for cheap price. Would return again!
