An absolute treat in Hull's old town - Edit
Having read great reviews of Green Ginger, we thought we'd venture there on a recent trip to Hull. We found it easily enough, and first impressions were good - clean, airy, bright decor and a good friendly reception.
Read moreThe service was really good - friendly, helpful and efficient - and the food amazing. There were seven main dishes (including two soups), the majority of which were vegan, and all came with a choice of up to three of the salads from their fantastic salad counter - which had at least a dozen lovely salads. They also had a good choice of sweets, some vegan, and drinks both hot and cold.
I had the soy-sage and tomato pie with minted potato, tomato pasta and rice & bean salads, which was all very tasty. My wife had a bowl of spicy butternut squash soup, which I tried and we both agreed it was amazing - very hearty, and served with four chunks of bread. We each had an apple, carrot and ginger juice, which we also could not find fault with - not too sweet, not too "carrotty" and a nice ginger kick. For sweet, she had a peanut butter and chocolate square, which made her eyes roll round (a good thing), with a cup of tea, while I went for the toffee apple cake - again, faultless.
The portions were a good size - filling but not overwhelming, leaving one with just enough room to squeeze a sweet in :-)
To top it all off, it's great value for money - two mains, two fresh juices, two sweets, a cup of tea and a take-away carton of five of the salads for £20 - we will definitely be visiting again, even though we're 75 miles away ! Shame five happy cows is the maximum :-)
Note that currently Green Ginger is open 11am - 4pm on Tuesday-Saturday.
Pros: Great choice, great food, Value for money, Great service
Cons: None.

You'd be lucky to find this place if you didn't know about it, but it's worth it once you do! Clean, bright and funky decor await as does a tasty selection of hot mains and lots of different salads. It's £4.95 for a salad plate or £5.95 for a main which comes with 3 salads...all yummy, and plenty of which are vegan. Usually 2 or 3 hot Vegan options, e.g. Pie, Curry, Chilli, 'chicken' Pasta Bake. Have been a few time, never disappointed! Usual tea, coffee, cold drinks and a few cakes and Vegan flapjack. Really nice place and lovely staff! :)

Cons: Not open Sunday., Tucked away location.

Fantastic discovery - Edit
Right in the heart of the old town, just off a famous street called Land of Green Ginger (yes, really!). Really friendly and welcoming place, very clean and with delicious food. About 6 hot main dishes with fresh salads plus sarnies, drinks and lighter options. Their website doesn't do this place justice, it lists lots of "plastic meat" dishes, but when I arrived there was lots of choice of really inventive choices. Run by people really passionate about what they do, and well worth supporting.

Cons: i imagine it could get busy at peak times, not open in the evening
