Warmy experience

During the covid they changed their policy and it is 15$ for a fixed meal.
The restaurant is vegetarian cause they use butter and milk, but if you say you're vegan they give you an alternative. Delicious indian meal, with biryani rice, curry, dahl, veggies and sauces and a final dessert. Environment is very warm and staff is pleased to explain you the food, the place and the project. And it's in the center of Elizabeth Quay

Pros: Very cheap, Friendly staff, amazing food

Cons: fixed meal

I wish we had such an amazing place in my country. The food is excellent and the people are so lovely. It's nice to join others at the long tables. They told us everything was vegan the night we came.

Delicious food, great location, fabulous value.

I called 15 mins before closing when I was 12 minutes walk away. They happily packaged up a fabulous takeaway vegan meal which was ready wAitng for me when I arrived right on closing. Delicious and huge quantity - much more than I could eat. Lovely floor one setting with veranda seating as well overlooking water. Friendly people. And incredibly only $10 for my meal..

Pros: Delicious, Great location on the river, Amazing value

More places with this concept please!

The food was OK but what really makes this place is the concept of paying how much you feel like.
I have had food at similar places to this in Europe and I really think that not looking a prices changes your dining experience.

They had some cumin water, which went really well with the food. It's a buffet style so you can eat as much as you want. The food was tasty but not spicy, however I think that food in Australia is not spicy at all in comparison to other places in the world.

Enjoy!

Pros: Almost everything was vegan , Owners are very friendly , Good variety

Cons: Not cosy, Background music

The treasure of Barrack St

Is easy to find: just go upstairs on the Barrack Street Jetty.
Tasty food but mild in spice level. Those looking for spicier Indian food might be disappointed. Then again, I've heard that the menu changes so I can't say this applies all the time.
Was hoping they'd have a more extensive food selection though. When I visited, they had two types of rice (plain and pilau), potato baaji, lentils, veg mulligatawny, pumpkin curry, and a sago milk pudding (non-vegan). Be wary of asking for ingredients like ghee and yogurt.

My non-veg friend said she'd give it around 3.5 or 4 out of 5 and I reckon that's about right.

Fun tidbit: supposedly this restaurant was going to close down sometime in 2012-13 and everyone was so sad that thankfully they kept it open.

Pros: Worth it, considering it's pay as much as you want, Friendly staff - smiles all around

Cons: Would have liked to see a wider selection of food

lovely concept

Really nice location. nice variety of food from the buffet, some spicy some less so. The concept of paying what you think the food is worth is so nice as it opens the doors to more people.

Pros: provides a good service, atmosphere

It does what it has set out to do

Very simple food, not too spicy, plenty of it if you go back for seconds.

Pay what you feel it is worth.

They don't know what is vegan

Unfortunately the food here was terrible but what can you expect from a "pay as much as you want" buffet. The staff didn't know what vegan meant so it was difficult to find out what was vegan as nothing had labels.

Pros: Affordable

Cons: Food not good , Vegan food NOT LABELLED

Delicious and Authentic Indian

I really enjoyed my experience at Annalakshmi. The food was fantastic and I loved the community dining experience of the buffet and seating. The "pay as your heart feels" set up was new to me, but I found that my meal was worth the recommended price of $10-15. Volunteer staff were pleasant and it got rather busy around lunch rush hour. I felt very satisfied after my meal.

Pros: Authentic Indian food, Eat as much as you want, "Pay what your heart feels it's worth"

Cons: Some may take advantage of the undefined price of , Close dining in one line , Can get quite busy

It's ok

I'd like to be able to say that I love this place, because I do love the idea of volunteers making food for people and only paying as much as one can. However the food is average, the staff always look like they are having a bad day and my overall experience has never been that great.
Once I was told by the staff that the dessert was vegan, luckily someone overheard it and told me that it had milk in it.. so be careful and always double check
I will be coming back though because it's one of very few places that can satisfy my huge appetite haha, and i still like what those guys are doing

Pros: Location&beautiful view, 'Pay by donation' concept, Huge portions (if you want)

Cons: Lack of atmosphere

A solid staple

I visit annalakshmi regularly and am never let down by the food there. It is buffet style Indian food that is always tasty. It is pay as you feel and excellent value. The location overlooking the Swan river is just beautiful and the staff (mostly volunteers) are fantastic. Everything is vegan apart from the desserts which often have dairy.

Pros: Buffet style, pay as you feel, Tasty food, Great location

Cons: Dairy in the dessert

The Best in Perth!

Enjoy the most amazing view over the Swan River without having to go to an expensive restaurant. I went to Annalakshmi and had the most amazing Indian food - everything was tasty!

Of course I asked which food was vegan and a lovely volunteer told me that everything is vegan except for the milk in coffee, so you don't have to worry! I'm 99% sure they never use dairy and eggs in the meals but just ask the staff when you go there and they might put up a sign one day.

As I said the staff is really nice, one of the volunteers even walked up to me and asked how my meal was - awesome. Such a nice place, tables are arranged in a long line so you can go there with a big group of people.

Pay as you feel is a little bit different, instead of placing money in a box (like in Melbourne at the Lentil) you actually have to go to a counter and give the money to a lady. Could make people a bit uncomfortable when they don't want to pay much but they don't judge you so don't be afraid.

Will go here again, atmosphere is nice, people are nice, food is fantastic.

Pros: Vegan except for the milk , Delicious Indian food cooked with love, Most amazing view

fantastic food

Had a great dinner here tonight. The volunteer staff were friendly and the food was some of the tastiest Indian I've ever had. I'ts a bit silly if some of the lower scores are from people giving it a lower rate for not being vegan - it's obviously an Indian restaurant and most people in India eat dairy.

Pros: amazing flavours in food, pay what you can, buffet

Cons: ambiance a bit no-nonsense

Serves dairy

The website says it is vegetarian, some of the staff incorrectly say it is vegan, however they definitely serve dairy in a jug for the milk.

My first visit here, I asked the person who gives you the plate whether there is animal products or by-products in anything, and he said "no, it is a vegan restaurant, there is no animal products or by products in anything". However, on my next visit, I saw a staff member pouring dairy into the unlabelled jug in the coffee section.

Very upsetting. Poor mothers, poor children, poor environment, and poor health.

Pros: Pay what you want, Yummy food, Buffet

Cons: Serves dairy, Pays for cruelty, Pays for ecological destruction

No longer has my business

Updated from previous review:

Frequented Annalakshmi for 15 months but will no longer give them my money or recommendations..

I have always been polite, respectful, grateful and paid anywhere between $10-$25 per meal per person. I have been a regular face here for 15 months & some weeks I frequent everyday up to twice a day. More times than not on a grand scale over my visits I have received rude and disrespectful service after always being so kind to them. I have placed shinning reviews for this place in the past but enough is enough now when it causes so much disconcertment after and during my visits here.
I will happily provide examples upon request in response to my submitted review.

There have been 2 or 3 inconsistent exceptions to it's staff here in my frequenting over the months but, is just isn't enough in comparison to the majority of mine and friends experiences.

Pros: Potato curry dish is delicious , Plenty of seating

Cons: No food labels, Lack of ingredient knowledge , More time than not service is very rude

Delicious food

I've been to this restaurant about 5 times now and each time and every time it's amazing food. The desserts are great but not always vegan and there's a good selection of food at the buffet.
There's lots of tables but they fill up quickly so if your bring friends or a big group be sure to make a reservation. The views of the swan river are great and there are tables outside to get a better look.
It's super good value for money, it's pay as you want so some people pay $5 some $25 and you can go back for more as many times as you like. It is spicy though but so are most Indian restaurants.
A great restaurant all around.

Pros: pay as you want, location/view, delicious

Cons: none

You must go here!

Amazing views of the Swan River, gorgeous dockside location and tasty food which "you pay whatever your heart thinks it's worth". I can't imagine how they afford the rent on this prime location while relying on people's goodwill, but this is a great restaurant well worth a visit. The day we went everything was vegan, some of the reviews mention a poor selections for vegans but this wasn't our experience. A good choice of curries and dhaals and rice, absolutely delicious and a view to die for. You're mad if you miss this little gem ;-)

Pros: Amazing location - river views, Delicious food, Pay what you think it's worth

Cons: Limited menu

An Indian Gem!

Had a group dinner here just before christmas.. it's always a fun experience to pick & choose the content of your plate & the buffet is fresh, colourful & delicious. Definitely all vegetarian but I don't believe that it is vegan, at least the dessert is not. The views of the swan river are lovely & the ambience here is buzzing & I have never seen it quiet! Yes you will probably have to line up to get food but the line moves quickly & it's worth it. They do frown upon leaving leftovers & I think this is a good thing for many people to consider. It's "pay what you feel" and I usually pay $10 - $15.

Pros: Delicious Buffet, Great atmosphere, view & decor., Great Value

Nourishing food and great view

Just recently had dinner here on a Sunday night. Have been a few times over the past couple of years and each time the options have been vegan. Had yummy potato curry, bean curry, cabbage dish, with plain and spiced rice plus a spicy soup. Enjoyed it very much. We booked a table and glad we did as it was very busy.

Pros: Tasty food, Eat as much as you like, Pay what you like
